Real Leather used on the models. I think this is probably the one of the best scale models of the Ferrari that I've ever seen. I wish I could pick one up for myself but it seems so expensive. There's even one selling for $3,600 on Ebay right now. Crazy! But I wonder how cool it looks up close in person.

This is the description taken off their website:

The exciting new Enzo from SportsEurope. Measuring 3 feet long, these models are quite detailed and large. Only 399 Enzos have been made, each one incorporating excellent details -visible engine detail, full leather interior with correct steering wheel, detailed wheels with brake calipers & rubber tires, exhaust pipes, etc. CDN$4495 each. The 1/5 250 GTO is also superb but built to a more exclusive and expensive edition. We also have other cars available in this scale - including the F2003 GA & BAR 03. Check here for more details!

I have seen it up close serveral times, and I can tell you it´s not that great when compared to the price tag. The overall shape is ok but it lacks much in detail. The 1/12 Enzo from Tamiya is a better model IMO.
That GTO is another story as far as I can see from your pictures... Great model! A little over my budget I´m afraid...

250GTO/64 is right. I've also seen one of the 1/5 enzos and they lack a lot of detail. Especially in the engine. The enzo was at Collector's Studio, the website the pics are from.

Looks terrible and it wouldn't take much effort to correct the stance of the wheels.
Also why go to the trouble of making the brake discs look like metal when one of the best known features of the Enzo is the carbon-ceramic brakes?!

That doesnt look that great. For the five hundred dollar price tag, you could buy like five smaller scale enzo's in all differant colors, or five differant ferrari models.

Does anyone have pictures of the Tamiya 1/12 die cast metal model? It's the one that sells for about $400-$500?

There are a number of topics on the board. Search for Tamiya Enzo and look around. I think the price you mentioned is about right, but I am not into that.

You meant the 1/5 model I suppose? Multiply those $500 by 6 or 7...

that's amazing that they didn't even get the window right. I could buy a hotwheels enzo for $40.00 and the shape of the window would be right. I mean, how could you not get something that simple right on a hugely expensive model??

The 1/5 scale ENZO's wheels are too inwards. Overall, the tamiya's 1/12 and BBR's 1/18 and 1/43 are a lot more better in my opinion.

Oooh, thanks for the link 250GTO, I think I might pick up one of these 1/12 Tamiya since it's more within my affordable price range. Here's a link to the pictures from that other post:

not just the side windows. the front windshield is at the wrong angle as well, which makes the roof slant down to the front.
that is an awful waste of money.

In response to the postings about the large scale models, here are some comments:

First I must start by telling you that every 1/18 model is a way better buy 'bang for the buck' than any large scale model car. This is due to the fact that when HotWheels, Minichamps etc. produce a model they spend $500K - $1M on the research, dies, tools and molds for each car. They make their money back by selling each model in the many tens of thousands and having them made in China where labour is quite inexpensive.

I think a lot of collectors are spoiled by the tremendous detail & value available in a 1/18 model for this reason. They assume that if they can get something with opening parts and a nicely painted metal body for that price then a model costing 10X the price would naturally have 10X the detail. This just isn't true. It's related to the economies of scale. When I commission a small run, like my 1/6 Lotus 49 (edition of 25), 1/5 250 GTO s/n 3757 GT (edition of 25) or 1/8 Aston Martin DB5 "James Bond" (edition of 5), there are tremendous costs involved, and often the builders make little if any money once the time and materials are factored in. There are no auto CAD or CAM diagrams to work with, so most of the building is done 'old school' in a small cottage industry shop, with a lathe, machining and lots of skill. The result is something hand made, larger than usual, quite detailed, very limited, but rarely, if ever, boasting opening parts. People that buy the large scale Enzo enjoy the fact that it is the biggest model of the car around. Most of these same Enzo owners or collectors also have the 1/12 Tamiya (probably the best model of the car around for the money), as well as the 1/18 HotWheels and 1/43 BBR. They admire each model for different qualities. But it is important to point out that none of them are perfect, at any price.

Think of a watch comparison. The best Patek Philippe can cost 100X more than a Swatch and both tell equivalent time. But there is something special to owning something hand made in limited numbers. That is why we aspire to drive Ferraris and not Fords. Some collectors would rather have a few 1/8 or 1/5 models instead of hundreds of 1/18s...in the end often the same monies are spent. There is no right or wrong when it comes to collecting, it's just a matter of opinion. A 360 Spider is not 5X better than a Corvette C6 convertible. So price does not always reflect value.

I can tell you that I have handled models that sell for up to $30 000, and there is no such thing as perfection. Each model can be critiqued, as can the real cars.

If anyone would like to see more photos of the large Enzo or 250 GTO (there are several variations) please feel free to email me at [email protected]
