http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16070928/?GT1=8816 Sold my 89 Saab Turbo with 160k, so I didn't quite get as many miles in as this guy
Well done, but I don't think I could drive the same car for 17 years. It's just like being married to it!
The article says ... "He had it detailed and parked it at the Hartford museum, which houses a number of rare vehicles. Then Gilbert bought another Saab with fewer miles." NO SHYTE. Like he could have bought one with MORE miles?
Bah, that's just getting warmed up! http://www.impactlab.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=10030
Wow! Is that the original engine, trans ect.....Done well. The most I have seen on a car odometer is around 600,000km or 373,000 miles. 1996 Toyota Camry V6. I used to service that car. Same owner from new and it was totally orginal also. My 1998 Mitsubishi Magna V6 ex taxi that I drive/share with my brother has 550,00km or 341,000 miles. We bought it 3 years ago and the car already had a new engine around 180,000km ago and new auto transmission around 50,000km ago. Other than that, drives like new. I am also driving a friends 2001 Mitsubishi Magna at the moment and they both drive the same. Good cars.
I once saw a vw rabbit with 815,000 miles. I stared at the odo a long time just to make sure. Its kind of a weird feeling.
That is great PAP. Yes as far as I know that fellow with the Volvo has the original engine, transmission, brakes, and so on. I am sure he has done all of the proper maintenance but it is impressive none the less!
I heard about a NYC taxi cab Crown Victoria that hit over 1mil miles. From what I hear, the guy drove it like 400 miles a day, and changed the oil everynight... I would personally get bored of a car at 100k miles, so I cant imagine running one for 1 million miles. That car looks in amazing condition though, kudos to him.
Wow! Changing the oil every night is a little extreme isnt it? Maybe once a week you would be more than enough? My old Tech teacher told me there was a 1988 EA Ford Falcon taxi that he saw while working in Brisbane, Aus that had 1 million km's. The EA had a new overhead cam design 6 cyl EFI. The previous models engine, had powered the Aussie Ford Falcons since 1966 or thereabouts. This engine was a totally new design. Anyways.........they got word about this taxi having 1 million km's so Ford Australia offered him a brand new engine in exchange for his old one. They wanted to inspect it, because it had done so many km's. The taxi driver agreed. My Tech teacher pulled the old engine apart and inspected. Like new he said it was. Had a little wear in the cylinder bores obviously he said, but he would have been happy to hone it out, clean it all up, new rings and bearings and put the engine back together to go again he said. That never happened. The engine is at Ford Australia in a glass showcase now he reckons. Im not sure how many oil changes the taxi driver was doing, but I doubt it was every night. Taxi engines tend to last alot longer, because they usually leave the engine running while waiting for pickups. Most engine wear on cylinders occurs on cold startup. Trouble is glazed bores sometimes. When the engine is running all the time and it is hot, you will get more life out of them.
