Today I was going to get an extra little bit of sleep but was interrupted with the doorbell at my girlfriend's house being rung repeatedly. Annoyed, I got up to see what in the world the fuss was about. Open the door to be greeted by one of NOPD's finest and 5 National Guard members in full fatigues. Oh crap.

"Sir, are either one of those two vehicles parked in front of this house yours?"

"No, but those are my girlfriends roommate's vehicles!"

As I peer over the officer's shoulder I see what took place in the front yard. Sure enough, both of my gf's roommates had parked right in front of her house the night before in a black Nissan Altima and a grey Nissan Pathfinder. Somehow some way a green Ford Tauras had insterted itself in between the two after making contact with the fisrt parked car, the black Altima, and then the second car, the Pathfinder.

Apparently the driver of the Taurus was on the way to work a construction job and dozed off behind the wheel going about 40mph. Tauras...meet Altima. Altima...meet Pathfinder (and say hello to Tauras while you are at it). The Altima looks pretty worked and the rear driver's side wheel of the Pathfinder is bent inwards, so it will have to be put on a lift to ascertain how much axle damage it took.

Funny, because as I first walk up the sleepy driver apologized and said, "Sir I am so sorry." So I told him not to apologize to me (my car was in the driveway :) ) and to apologize to the girls. Then I hear, "John? What's up buddy!"

To my surprise one of the MPs was a friend of mine from High School. Of course he immediately asks me if I want to have a picture taken of me with all of the National Guardsmen drawing their weapons on me in front of the wrecked cars. I respectfully declined considering that it was raining and would have NOT made my gf or her roommates very happy.

The best part? The sleepy fellow with the Tauras is UNINSURED.

    New Orleans baby!

They have been here since Katrina and provide backup to N.O.P.D.

Although they have no arresting powers, they can detain people until N.O.P.D. arrives. One of their units was patrolling and drove by seconds after the impacts took place.

The Guard came and never left........related to the automatic weapons fire in the Lower Wards mainly.....

Never mind the cars, post some pics of the roomates! :D

Really sorry to hear though, here 9 of 10 on the road is pretty 'iffy' for tags and insurance, hopefully the girl's coverage will step up....

That was me! It was hit by a truck after I first got it, then a year later some clown ran a stopsign in the French Quarter and sent me onto the sidewalk knocking over a metal trash can and 20ft light pole. Fun.

    Absolultely!

Basically he will be sued by the girl's respective insurance companies so the only real amount of money the girls will be out will be their deductibles. The odds of ever getting that back are pretty slim.

One thing is that one of the girls was supposed to drive home to Ft. Worth, Tx tomorrow morning. Too bad she lost her license 3 weeks ago and had to FLY TO TEXAS TODAY TO GET A NEW LICENSE so she could come back tonight and rent a car in the morning to move her stuff home!!!

A roofer hit my C class with no insurance. The State Police took his car but I never found out what happened to him. These guys seem to come and go so fast it would probably be hard to track them down to sue.

Jeeze, that sucks. There are sure some crazy drivers in NO. Years ago there was a wreck in front of my apartment when a drunk driver ran into a bunch of parked cars. He drove off and the police were called when the guard at Audubon Place saw him driving in the wrong direction on the wrong side of St. Charles. Then I think he drove into a house and finally crashed for good. Scary. It was lucky he only hit objects and no people were hurt.

I know a guy who literally passed out in his truck on the streetcar tracks near in a drunken stupor. Amazingly NOPD called him a cab and moved his car to the side of the road. Bear in mind this is the same gentlemen who drunkenly wrecked his truck by the Superdome and walked all the way back to Tulane. When he got to his place he called the cops and reported his car as "stolen."

There are some crazy stories from around here!
