I'm extremely hesitant to ask because I know there's a sense of "if you have to worry about it, you cant afford it." But I'll ask anyway. For 360 owners, what are your highest, lowest, and average total yearly costs for maintenance and repair?
for my Stradale.... 1200.00 per year. all fluids... brakes, motor, transmission, radiator. every 3 years Belts 1800.00 thats it...pretty reliable not other costs so far, car has 11,000 miles and is 5 yrs old now.
Got my F360 in spring of 2007 and did the following work; 1-Fall of 2007 major service at dealer including fluids and alignement = $6,500.00 CDN 2-Fall of 2008 oil change before winter= $1100.00 CDN(includes transport back and forth) 3- Winter of 2008 replaced brake pads and flushed brake fluid-did this my self = $+/- 500 CDN. saved well over $1500.00 by going to the dealer and my pads don't make as much dust. 4- Spring of 2009- replace shot wheel bearing, did alignment and mounted new rubbers on my wheels = $1500.00 CDN + $2000 for the tires. All work done at the dealer. Car has 29,000 km's or 18,125 miles. Total so far after 3 summers= $11600.00 Bought the car with 15800 km's so that works out to approx. $0.88/km or $1.41/mile . psorella
That question is only second to "which oil should I use" on the Forum. Best answer I've heard is budget for around $.25 per mile in maintenance and you'll be pleasantly surprised when it's only around $.10 per mile. The largest variable is without a doubt how you drive. Seeing as how a clutch can cost 15% of the value of the car and it just takes a few bad launches to cook it- there's no real reason to calculate the cost of repairs. These are modern, well manufactured cars built with precise tolerance. My Lamborghini requires oil changes, and friction surfaces as needed. The parts are more expensive but they are no different than an Audi. That's about it. Repairs, on the other hand, are a function of use. Do not deceive yourself by mentally combining maintenance and repairs. They are quite different expenses!
"My Lamborghini requires oil changes, and friction surfaces as needed. The parts are more expensive but they are no different than an Audi. That's about it. I have spent just about $14k in 2 years maintaining my 360. That is about 10,000 miles of usage. For more specific information, see this link. http://supercarrentalsinc.com/the-complete-ferrari-360-buyers-guide/
I don't agree with this as a reasonable estimate. If you look at the cost of major repairs such as clutches and even major services you easily exceed that number. A clutch will cost at least $3,500 installed. If you got 35,000 miles out of it that would be $.10 per mile. That would be outstanding clutch life on any Italian exotic. If you do major services every 15,000 miles with timing belts at $2,500 that is $.16 per mile. If you do them every 50,000 miles which I would not advise you are still at $.05 per mile. That is realistically over $.25 per mile for just major services and clutchwear. I think both of those estimates are half of what you should realistically expect. You also have to add a lot of other factors. I have experienced about $1.40 per mile in maintenance costs on my car and I believe that I am probably around average. I have had no major unexpected issues and my car has never flashed a check engine light.
Agree that they are different but most people don't think of them as different. Let's face it, don't do the repairs and you don't get to drive the car so .... I would count on $1 per mile to Keep your 360 running and in good shape. That doesn't include gas or tires but gets the regular stuff like brakes, fluids, clutch, leaking this or that, adjust the top, etc. Planning for $.25 is planning for disaster.
Headlights...$5,000 (milky, couldn't live with it) Clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, disc, pilot & TO bearing, fluids...$6,000 Belts & hoses and oil...$4,000ish Brakes...$1,500 Next two years will be cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeap! Just gas & fluids!!!
I guess we just disagree. Perhaps it is a question of perception. I change my own spark plugs, bust my knuckles to my ability and don't take my car in every time it sputters or leaks a drop of oil. I see a problem and I beat the crap out of my car, and try to see if that makes the problem worse. Worse= goes to the mechanic. Better or the same=must be a design feature. I think a lot of Ferrari owners (none of this forum, of course) drive their cars like a latte sipping p****y and Ferrari pays you back with multiple unnecessary trips back to the dealership. Just MHO. These cars are designed, spec'd, produced and sold to be pushed hard. See that's the problem. People lump maintenance and repairs together, and they are not the same thing. Proper maintenance eliminates repair work. My maintenance costs were ~$.30 My repair costs were $1.00/mile. Subtract a prematurely burnt clutch and they were $.10/mile Stop driving like a wuss and your car will thank you.

My 355 cost $20K Canadian for 10K miles, or $2 per mile; My 360 cost $4K Canadian for 5K miles, or $.80 per mile; My CS cost $7.5K Canadian for 8.4K miles, or $.90 per mile; This says nothing about depreciation of course. My CS has depreciated about $88K Canadian over 8.4K miles, or about $10 per mile.
If your pre-cats go before you replace them your looking at 15k to 20k. Just had a friend go through it. And if you have a spider a clutch, beltservice and a couple parts for the top, Fueltank removed for evap leak, front bumper repainting and clearbra =20k ( that was at Ferrari of Atlanta) another friend. If you can't deal with a 20k bill I wouldn't drive it much. You might get lucky but if either of those things happen it can suck bigtime.
I worded that wrong I guess. I've had mine for almost 3 years and have not had any major problems. I'm just saying that 20k bills can and will happen, I have been lucky with mine so far. Only a Belt service ($3500) and oil changes. I was shocked when I heard these numbers from these guys.
Like you, I did my own fluids and maintenance. Owned the car for 3 years and haven't spent that much yet. BUT, I haven't done the belts yet and it is due. I also have not replaced the clutch (~20K miles on my car) plus the rotors will need replaced next round of pads. There is a minor oil leak at the valve cover that hasn't been fixed and I have the gas gauge issue but won't fix it because I have a Spider and I don't want to take the top out until necessary. When it goes in for the belts and all the other stuff it will be a big bill. I can not just dismiss that expense just because I haven't done them yet. They will need to be done. If you just drive the car and never have to replace any of the expensive stuff you can get off pretty cheap. Then again, you admit to $1.30 per mile but dismiss the expensive parts and claim a lower cost. Don't get me wrong, I think they are very reliable cars. However as S notes below be prepared for a 10-20K bill because bad stuff CAN happen and big bills do come up.
MRED, you need to mention that your cars are RENTALS.. The last post you made here painted a very bad light on 360 maintenance costs.. and did your Gallardo costs. everyone here (including 360 mechanics) clearly disagreed with your maintenance report.. I have driven my car 7k miles and all I have done is a major (2600.00 US at a dealer) and an oil change (200.00 us at a certified independant) in maintenance, also had the alarm battery replaced (350 at an independant) which somehow cost you what? I beleive you said thousands to do the job?.. the 360 is a reliable car.. find a reputable independant mechanic and you will find it is cheaper to own than a M3.. <--- this is the real story.
I agree that they are reliable but your numbers put you at $.45 per mile and you haven't had to do a clutch yet. You may be less than $1.00 but not that much. FWIW, my 360 costs way more than my M to maintain.
I've only had my 2003 360 spider now for 3 years, and driven it about 6000 miles. I did an 2 oil, and fluid changes. Cost me about $220 each time. That is all. I am now due another one, and a major service. This time, I'll have a dealer do it all.
For instance.. the ferrarl dealer charged about 135 for labor, the M3 labor at the bmw dealer was 125..just 10 dollars less.. the costs for the f1 pump on the m3 were a bit more than the ferrari modena's pump.. the costs for the clutch and clutch assembly from an e46 m3 is almost identical to that of the ferrari's costs.. brakes.. the same.. oil change.. same cost.. What I am trying to say is this.. a 60k m3 costs the same in maintenance/parts/labor than a 200k ferrari.. So when people are talking about costs parts/labor they need to look at other cars and compare part for part.. labor for labor and it sheds more light on the subject.. Every instance and circumstance is different.. but I can tell you in a year.. the m3 has cost me more than 3x my ferrari and 3x the maserati to run.. in that year timespan.. So if you guys would purchase a m3.. I wouldn't be to worried about purchasing a ferrari.. besides the increased price of purchase.. maintenance is shockingly similar
Agreed. The only big difference I see is if something bad/big happens. In that case the bill can be MUCH more so you have to be able to live with a surprise 10-20K bill. You don't have to like it but you have to be able to pay it.
I understand that of course.. but this can also be said of the m3.. catastrophic problems can happen to any car..
Keep up the service and you save yourself money. As they work on your car they can see things that may need to be repaired or serviced. My car has never stranded me, never stalled on me, only provided me great fun. Something else I've experienced, you may as well just take it to Ferrari as the savings I've heard about really never unfold. And if you do save, it's not much at all. I've decided to just stick with Ferrari for service going forward. It looks better on paper and they always do a great job. Unless another shop comes in with just great rates. Saving $10-20 an hour just isn't worth it to me. Ferrari does what I ask, and in a timely manner for what they quote me. They are great, and my car is great as a result. Cheap-out, and you may be paying heavvvvy.
