Safety must not be a concern with those fuel tanks located right on the outside like they are... If that truck ever gets T-boned in an accident, then a diesel fire could occur.

 

Diesel is not explosive, and not all that easy to light up.

 

...unless you throw gasoline on it...

 

The Feds come along with CAFE standards and regulations and tell the manufacturers that cars have to run cleaner, get better mileage, and be safer.

So manufacturers sell trucks -- prettied up with plastic and ultra thin sheet metal, and gimmicky interiors, but trucks.

But they're big so "they must be safe, right?".

Uh huh.

please, can we STOP confusing "sports car" with crap like this?

over the last couple years even aussies are referring to them as SUV's. we used to have a good opinion of ourselves as a country as these cars were primarily used by people in the outback who had a use for them... they're what i learnt to drive in and what i made a living in, having partly grown up in the outback.

now, 1/4-1/3 of private vehicles in the inner suburbs where i spend all my time are these things which are randomly changing lanes and pulling out of side-streets thinking they're faster than they are... 250kw of power has nothing to do with speed in a 4000kg vehicle.

for me it's in the same category as sitting on a bus and having a fat stinking slob sit next to you, it's just people taking up way more space than they should and disregarding the inconvenience they cause others.
