The new SLS gullwing is not for short people. I'm 5'10" and I was just able to reach the door to close it. My friend who is the same height as me was unable to close the door on his own. Also the door sill is pretty large and its not very elegant getting in or out of the car. It drives great though.
Interesting point about the Internet and information. When I was in high school in the '80s, I was lucky to see 1 or 2 Ferraris a year (in Ohio), and the only information I had was from R&T. It was easier to romanticize the cars back then. I don't think Ferraris are "closer to the bottom of the pile", but they are now part of the pile and there are many affordable ones (308 through 360). The world's winning-est marque, I believe.
I think I've seen one 911 in every touring car championship (except for JGTC and limited make-series). Much, much more than Miatas which are 90% random yahoos.
I don't think it is McLaren that Ferrari has to worry about. Or Lambo. I think it is Porsche and perhaps even Audi. I'm still in my 30s and, honestly, most guys I know that are into cars are seriously into the German supercars. It's not that they feel Ferraris are unattainable; they really prefer the 911 and R8. I have to admit, what little marketing that Ferrari and Lambo do is pretty tired compared to how Porsche, Audi, and even now Mercedes Benz market their cars. The Germans seem to have a crisper, edgier image that speaks to younger buyers. I think Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, etc. are relying on their brands and some sense of history too much. They'll need to get with the program. Now that Porsche is making noise about the $250K segment, Ferrari needs to start looking at the next 10 years and who, exactly, the buyers will be.
I recently drove a Cali (see The Next Cali in the Cali Thread) and found the car to be refined, fast and a real Ferrari but my old 2002 360 FI Spider slightly more fun to drive. Then there is the 458 owner who complains that his new car is no fun to drive around town. Of course, Fchatters were all over him like flies on feakle matter. When I spend $200k to $300k+ I expect the car to exceed my expectations or else I will keep a tight hold on my do-re-mi. There may be enough newbies who have no idea what an older Fcar drives like who will be happy with th newer models. Good luck getting a new GTO. But I don't see any other marque that melts my butter better. 360 I love you.
What is more sobering is that in the next 10 years, the majority of newbies will have no recollection of a Ferrari with a gated H-pattern shifter. They'll think that is the R8's shifter!
It is evident in their halo car: in the Porsche 959 has gone from how Le Mans racer with turbocharged, all-wheel drive, so the comparison, really advanced technology (then) straight: In the two hundred eighty-eight won Gu concerned about him..Rift Plat..Last time I saw a Cartier Pendants and actually that not charming enough but I really like it.And what a pity I lost it finally so I really regret now!
