'Cause I like to drive my Ferrari 12 months a year!! 'Cause I like to be able to drive everywhere in my state... no boat needed. 'Cause I can drive to several different race tracks. 'Cause, although there's no mountains in sight (barely even hills), I can drive one day to some awesome mountains (in Colorado, New Mexico, Arkansas, or Missouri) where you can actually drive in, up, around, through, and even on top of those mountains. With all that said, I must also say, Alaska was one of our most memorable summer vacations!!
Brian, you need to come down to hill country...trust me I hate the heat..have to wash cars @ 2100-2400, or 06-0900 just to not cook doing it. Just came in from waxing Maranello, 0045 finished. Damn AC is on recirc for months on end. I can put top down in AM, but forget it in PM. Wouldn't move to snow ever again.
Amen to that! We spent 6.5 years of retirement living in the mountains at 9100 feet in Colorado. The views were awesome towards the west side of Pikes Peak and south to the Sangre de Cristos but snow twelve months of the year got old. Needless to say, we decided to come back to the real world in Texas. What I find most interesting right now is that despite the heat, the majority of all my horses have been growing very noticable winter coats now for about 3 weeks or longer. I hope they're saying it's gonna get cold soon! Carol
I recently moved here from New England. (Don't tell anyone, but there is a yankee among you... LOL). I really enjoy this state. Sometimes the heat gets a bit old and I miss the cool fall day with crispness in the air. But then I remember how few of those days occur and how often... Here it's sunny all the time. Storms roll through and leave on occassion. Up north, you might have rain for a week straight. YUK! I was in Vegas in July and it was 114... Now THAT is hot! On the flip side, I was in Vegas last week and when I stepped off the plane it was something like 68 F. I was in shock! LOL
Wife and I went to school in Austin... I sooo badly wanted to find a job there... I absolutely love the hill country. But its not the same as Colorado hill country... just a lot quicker to get to, and plenty fun.
im literally metling down here in houston...ive lived here my whole life, and you dont get used to this stuff...
Hot AND humid... I agree... I don't think you can get used to it... the body just doesn't function well, IMO. Hot and dry... really doesn't bother me much. Yeah, its annoying to break a sweat walking out to get the mail... but at least the body stabilizes in temp/sweat with any amount of breeze. The time we've spent in FL or Houston... the body just keeps sweating, to no real purpose... the air's so humid, that you pick up as much moisture as evaporates. Cold works much the same way... we often leave Dallas mid-morning in the winter... its 45'F and feels really cold and icky... I shiver as I fill up the car. We arrive late at night into Colorado mountains... its -12'F (yes negative) and I need to fill up the car... I hop out and it doesn't feel too bad... without any humidity, it actually feels not as cold as it did in Dallas! I now worry little about temps when considering new places... I primarily look at humidity!
