I have no connection with this but F-Chatters should know about,

"A private school in Tarpon Springs is putting a Ferrari on the charity block to raise money for expansion.

A school parent at First Christian Academy and Learning Center donated the 2002 Ferrari Modena Spider, which has only 7,500 miles on it, Principal Ramita Buckley said.

The school isn't identifying the donor, but Buckley said the idea came up in conversation.

"We were at our fall festival talking about the cost of our expansion," she said.

The school has about 200 students and just added an eighth grade.

Buckley said she's already purchased a ticket. Each ticket costs $100, and anyone 18 or older can buy one.

The drawing will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 25."

Other prizes include a three-night Clearwater Beach getaway or use of a Porsche Boxter for a weekend plus dinner at restaurant.

are you sure it's legit? It's much better odds than winning the lotto.

Its interesting that they don't have a "minimum tickets purchased" requirement. Most of the time these raffles require this in order to offset the cost of the item, and then put some money in the charity's pocket. With only 300 tickets sold (30k raised) they need to do significantly better otherwise they should just sell the Ferrari and keep the cash-

I tried to raffle one of my cars for the schools in Boulder. One of the biggest PITA I've attempted. Because it's a game of chance, there are many regulations and licensing requirements that most wouldn't think of. What do you do if the car is damaged/lost during the raffle? A sheriff has to be present at the drawing to make sure it isn't rigged. You need a version of a gaming license. And on and on. I'm not saying it's the case here, but if you raffle an item and then deduct it at an inflated price in a down car market it's an easy way to run into IRS trouble. In the end, I put it on EBay and just donated the money.

A good friend of mine won a raffle like this for a 325 xi back my junior year in high school. He won it sometime in mid-May and ended up not being able to actually call it his own until early August because of all the unforseen paperwork that they had to work through. Still pretty sweet though.

Under Florida law apparently, they are not allowed to put a number on min or max ticket sales.

There is another thread here with a discussion on this as well as answers to some questions and links to media coverage on this raffle.
