their prices are pretty insane. They want $200 for a mira testarossa, and I lost one the other day on ebay since my max bid was 25 and it sold for $26.50...Maybe the brand new in box is worth the premium, but it seems doubtful.

No it is not and you'd be crazy to pay that kind of money for it.... Ebay is your best bet for any models.... I have yet to find any dealer who can touch most Ebay prices.... I would be ashamed to list some of the prices they have on there site and the Ebay ads they run for UT 355 models $200+---when they are selling on Ebay by private parties all day for half that...

I would not pay that for a Bburago. Always do your homework before buying.

Most of those casting are used by Hot Wheels now anyways, so buying an elite 288 or F40 would be the better way to go.
If you're just trying to collect the Bburago for collecting sake, then I would not pay more then $40 or $50 USD.
(even if its hard to find)

I would never advise throwing them out, I just would never advise paying $100.00 for one.
Some of those castings are "firsts" for 1:18 Ferraris.

Now this is the same Cavallino Models
that support this site, . . right ?

If you don't like the price, don't buy.
No need in posting a thread bashing
    a sponsor.

Hell, . . I personally think that Ferrari
charges too much for their cars, but
I'm not posting a thread bashing them.

Sounds like your post refers to the OP--but here is my 2 cents anyway--No one is bashing anyone, simply stating FACTS. Look at there website and Ebay ads and see for yourself....I do not buy from them because darn near every other model dealer on the planet is cheaper for the same product.. I do not run out and spend double what a model is worth just because they are a sponser. Cavillino has a great following here and have repeat customers for sure. I have heard there customer service is top notch...I actually have bought a model or two from them in the past...---Personally, I do not buy there anymore because I can buy 2 models elsewhere for the price of one model there---Sorry if I am a logical person....Doesn't take a engineer to figure out $100 can buy 1 model or 2 models, which do you prefer?? For the same price, I'll take 2 models every day of the week..

I would like to thank the posters that are defending us in our price strategy. What many of you may not understand is that we are a legitimate company that pays taxes and duties when we purchase our models. These models are discontinued and are not available any more. For us to purchase models we purchase them from all over the world and import them here correctly. There is no other dealer that has as many discontinued models as we do. We stand behind out product and our prices.

We appreciate our customers and get them the products they want. We are a business that spends a lot of time on finding products. Every mom and pop is able to open an eBay account and sell models that have been sitting on a shelf for 10 years. We purchase models that are in that condition as well, and what happens is we use then as part cars because we cannot ethically sell that model to someone if it does not pass our standards.

When you go into a restaurant do you complain about the cost of the filet if you can get it cheaper and cook it yourself? We spend money on branding, marketing, rent and much more. There are very few businesses that stay in this business as a real business and not a hobby. We have been doing this for seven and a half years and have thousands of happy customers. We are passionate about the business and do what we can to make people happy.

    Thank You,
    Rita Spivak

Not that it is needed, but here are my two cents.
I stand somewhere in the middle of this debate. I have to say that 90% of my Kyosho models I have bought from Rita at Cavallino and it has been one of the best customer-service-experiences I have ever experienced. Most likely than not I will buy every other Kyosho model that comes out from Rita too. Cavallino's prices on the Kyoshos are reasonable and they give F-chatters free shipping.
From what I understand their custom work prices are OK too. I am not into the BBR madness (there are some BANG models for $40 that just as good if not better IMO) so I can not speak for them.
However some of the asking prices for "discontinued" models are plain insane. By the logic implied earlier some models I have should sell for 10K plus, even if they were selling for $40 originally.
I mean c'mon, Bburagos were sold in the gazillions and could be found collecting dust on every gas station around most of the world. Just because they lost their Ferrari license does NOT make them rare or more collectible.
I, just like most people here have enough common sense to understand the concept of the difference between mom and pop on e-bay and a well advertized business, so describing it in detail is somewhat insulting. Especially when defending $100 Bburagos.
A $300 Jean Alesi F93 in 1:18 from Minichamps, I can understand even if I don't buy it. $500 Nicki Lauda 312 T2 from exoto I can justify. But $100 Bburagos and $300+ for UT 355 is just silly.

I agree with Lucky on all of that.

I have also heard that Cavallino Models sell some great cars, and I think the prices on the Kyosho cars they have are very well priced.

Well I have made my first puchase from Cavallino Models a few weeks back. It was for a new release from Kyosho. Her price was the same as everywhere else, and F Chat members get free shipping. I had some special shipping requests that she had to take time out of her life to take care of and she did with no complaints. I would buy from them again for sure, I don't mind paying a little more for great customer service and I like to support our sponsors.

That's true, in that you have very little recourse unwinding an eBay deal if it's broken or flawed......so there's some risk included in that "good deal"...IMO.

My collection started with 1:18 BBuragos, have tons of them plus the old catalogs they used to issue....

And the post is correct, they turn up still today in hobby shops and Markets here..

Cavallino Models is one of the finest companies I've ever dealt with, plain and simple. They may, on some occasions, be higher priced but, they're competitive most of the time and their service is outstanding. The only one I've dealt with there is Rita and everything she does is very professional. I'm sure those of us who have dealt with her will agree.

    A very satisfied customer!
