my 456 is at the garage for it's 100000km service and i just got a call the
rear dampers are leaking (probably rather "sweating", i would have noticed
a proper leak). that means the car will sit on its 4th set of rear dampers.
an average of 25000km per set of dampers...
i really really love my car, but there are one or two little issues that do get on my nerves...

The Bilstien shocks were junk from the very beginning when Ferrari started to use them and the rear load levellers in the 456 were the worst.

    Your experience is quite common.

is there a possibility to use something that lasts longer?
my car is a late 96 model.

did you ever notice a 'noise' like a hydrolic high-pitch sound that might have stated some problem?

no there was no noise, not this time and not the other times before.
everytime the leaks were small, i noticed a drop or two next to a rear wheel.
once the leak was more important and it started to affect the steering .

A totally naive question - wouldn't the shocks from the F550 fit? Apart from being more durable, they would also help stiffen the ride and improve handling.

Otherwise, check companies like Novitec - I have seen a couple of lowered/stiffened F456s which looked fantastic, much more aggressive. I don't know if they were Novitec but I would say it's a good place to start looking.

thanks andré, i might consider it next time. im just not sure if i like the
idea of the car being lower, im sure it looks great but im also sure you'll
    "bump" it a lot.
by the way, i bought my 456 in zürich
