I'm sure they're just trying to blow out that SLR before the revised model comes out. It seems to me that the SLR has been a disappointment for Mercedes because it hasn't grabbed the attention many other cars got that debuted at the same time.

I think that a lot of people are in the same boat as you, for the same money they'd rather have something other than the SLR.

They are still producing the normal SLR right ? How many were built ? The initial plan was around 3500 cars i think ?

First, its a used car and while it only has 40 miles it is not at a Benz dealer so that is worth something but as a whole the SLR's and the Carrera GT's are a tough sell in these price ranges. The Porsche is already in the the low 3's and some have seen a few in the 2's. The Benz isn't too far behind. They all do well when they hit the dealers but when the big boys all have one and they continue to produce them the next wave of buyers are happy to buy used and save 100k and then the dealers need to drop no mile cars to compete with the 2and 3k mile used ones. The intial buyers don't care about the depreciation and the used buyers seem to be pretty price conscious.

It WAS one of my all time favorite cars to lust but after seeing it for the first time in person this past weekend at our local charity car show, i was pretty disappointed......something about the rear end that appears to be cut short.

The fact that normal people can't tell them from SLK's doesn' thelp things either. I recognize people like us as enthusiasts think thats absurd, but the general public has no idea about that car.

Also, the interior is just crap to me, nothing unique about it and kinda ugly. Looks like a regular SL55 at a glance, with an ugly, high dash.

Plus that automatic, which I view as a nod towards the crowd who is buying it just to be seen in it. However, going back to my first point, it looks like an SLK so most of those guys aren't buying it either.

The GT is another story though, I think that when Porsche decided to up production so much, that it put a bit of a cloud over the car. Plus combined with its reported evil handling characteristics and you get low demand. I personally think its the best buy in a used supercar, but rumors of 30k clutch jobs might also be an issue.

Have you seen a black one in person? Although ridiculously proportioned and overtly phallic, it looks like an H.R. Giger rendition of a Viper. Pretty mean.

I actually saw an all-black SLR at Miller Motorsports Park during the Grand Am races at the beginning of August. I actually wouldn't have even bothered going over to take a closer look at it had someone else I was with not wanted to take a look at it. IMO, like its been said, there is absolutely nothing special about the design of the vehicle.

And, if it drives anything like the SL65 AMG I just had the opportunity to drive this past weekend, I definitely don't want it. Tons of torque, but absolutely zero soul. One of the most sterile drives I've had in a high end car... granted I didn't exactly drive it quickly... ( it was a friends leased vehicle..), at low speeds it was definitely a comfortable gt car.

I know they hit the 1000 mark about 2 months ago , and that its still being built, but i dont know what the figure is at now. Dont forget the 722 version is limited to 100 or 150 (not exactly sure on the figure) but that will be inside the final production figure, not on top of it.
