Location will be the high school again.
Remember to turn your clocks back on Saturday night, or you'll get there too early! At least the time change will mean an additional hour of light in the morning.
Charles....looking for a 3RS, not a 2.... Note that the owner of said GT2RS traded it in on a new 3RS 4.0 bill
Hey Michael, Current thinking is that I'll do an '11 3.8 RS instead; no more 4.0's coming in and honestly I cant justify the $50k gap between the 2 cars. When P went from Gen 1 (07/08 3.6L) to Gen 2 (10/11 3.8L), there was ~$12k difference in base price. For this you got bigger engine, shorter gears, wider track/more tire, Xenon standard, sport buckets, DEM. The last 3 items alone cost ~$8k as options on a standard 911...and you got the engine/gears etc. Now with the 4.0, it's just more motor (and a GREAT one at that...). I just dont know if it is $50k worth of extra motor. Who knows...maybe one of the 4.0 owners will want to fire-sale one of their cars Bill
$50k seems like an awful lot for 0.2 liter -- I'll bet something else is going on there, but I'm no expert on Porsches.
Jim.....Here is a good article on the differences, showing the engine is closer to the Cup car, the total front clip is carbon fiber and more. Plus the limited number of production units. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/1106_2011_porsche_911_gt3_rs_4_0_drive/viewall.html
well carbon fiber is expensive. since it is the best, and the last of the breed in limited numbers, that is the big reason P is asking a $50k premium.
Correct...P took the opportunity to take their cut of the "Last Mezger engine--collector car" status (similar to the 997 Speedster vs. Carrera GTS cab). The thought of carbon fenders and hood scare me...what happens when someone dings or hits it ? That ain't going to be cheap to fix..... Bill
After missing the show the last two months, I finally made it to Northview HS, with a little help from standard time - the extra hour of sleep and of morning daylight both helped. If the turnout had been substandard since the move to Northview, it didn't seem so today; the lot was basically full by 8:30 and latecomers circulated looking for early departers. The Johns Creek police were in evidence keeping an eye of everything, and both the Pink Ladies and some Northview students were selling coffee and doughnuts. The walk to use the restrooms in the stadium was a bit far but tolerable. I'll be posting photos starting this evening. Some of the highlights were: the Tupolev aerosled (it was back, and still reluctant to start!), two new Porsche RS 4.0s, a Mercedes SLR McLaren, a Fisker Karma, a vintage Volvo that had done the Carrera Panamericana rally and "Phantom of the Fox" Joe Patten with his Rolls Royce. Plenty of cars that were familiar from previous sites, including the Lexus LFA and the usual groups of Lamborghinis, Porsches, Corvettes and Camaros were there as well.
Had the Viper Coupe out today, what a great time, perfect weather fabulouse display of eclectic rides, some lady even had her pet GOAT!(no not a GTO) Chuck beck has his SHOGUN out,the original sick rear engined Ford fiesta I wish it would stay there, cops had it under control & the tierd parking made for some great viewing. I got there at 8 thinking I would blow out early & got home at 12 Met some of the nicest, polite, repectful young enthusiasts I have ever seen at any show anywhere. Gives me hope for the future.
Nice turnout today ......... good variety of cars, and a nice mix, and had a chance to say hello to a bunch of us on the forum here and the regulars that show. (Also bumped into, Seth and Carol just as I was backing out to leave). Nice day overall.
Chuck at his Sunday best (being light on the loud pedal, which for him isn't easy!) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZPSCvnJ8cM&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame] Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great day today! I really enjoyed seeing everyone, the weather was completely bearable, and tons of quality cars came out! Keep an eye on my youtube channel for the next few days to see and hear a variety of awesome cars! -kevin
Agree 100%...the tiered parking does make for great viewing and photo ops, and I like the fact that the event is now private, not mixed in with Retail shoppers (inconvenient for both the shoppers and us car guys). Really hope it stays there. It is great to stand at the top of the hill, see ALL of the cars and watch folks as they enter and leave. Great venue if you ask me..... Bill
