The red/red is a bit too much for me, although it does have a cool history. Searching here for some info, it looks like it had some motor issues not too long ago? It appears to have had a fair amount of work done to it this year, not sure if that took care of everything or not. I'm thinking the previous buyer is trying to flip it-- not sure that's going to work out. I'd like a PF Coupe at some point, but the time is not right for me. Are the drum brakes all that bad, or is that exaggerated?
Re the Drum question I bought a Series 2 (1899 GT) after test driving a Series 1. Scared me witless at the time but I was new to the game. Over time and driving other PF Coupes I’ve come to appreciate the Drum capabilities for what they are, definitely limited relative to Disk but absolutely fine once you know to expect, and crucially what not to expect, when you depress your right foot.
They are mostly an issue when cold, is that right? Is the overall stopping power when warm considerably less?
The stopping difference to Disk is noticeable. I would describe it as tangible more than marginal. But as you note when warmed up the Drums certainly do their job (just not as well).
Interesting. I think it sets a price for a running, driving, decently presentable PF Coupe. I wouldn't want to be asking $499k for a rough one today, like the one Sheehan has.
Agreed; same w/ the driver 1147GT at FJ; $498,500. Been there a long time. I saw 1147GT in person at Concorso Italiano in 2015. It was parked right next to Vardanian's spectacular PF Coupe.
I've given 1147 lots of thought. It's just blah... at least the Sheehan car looks cool, even though it's rough. Maybe 1147 looks better in person than in pictures?
Probably about right with your comment. I track all the European PF Coules available as I’m ready to buy at around $300k but they haven’t been there for an eternity and at one point looked like they might never return. Might not still. What I can say is all the genuinely available European stock priced at $400k plus just sits around for ever. At best moving from dealer to dealer. Exceptional cars aide (like Johns and a few others) the market has moved. Given that’s always a function of supply vs demand I see plenty of supply and clearly reduced demand. When you look at 330 GTC prices maybe this shouldn’t be a surprise. Perhaps PF Coupe sanity has partly returned and if the trend continues enthusiasts not speculators can rejoin the party (but I’m not holding my breath on that).
Frankly, I'd prefer a crisp 3500GT over a rundown PF coupe. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1961-maserati-3500-4/
