Hi, I am a visitor from the 308 section: I am aware of a 365GTC/4 that has been sitting in a garage for the last 10 years. The guy that owns it, says that it ran when he parked it. The reason that he parked it was that all of his other obligations (i.e. work, Viper collection, etc.) made it so that the 365 just didn't get any attention. I think there is a small chance that this guy could be talked into selling it. I would love to buy it for two big reasons: 1.) 12 cylinders 2.) I just can't stand to see nice cars collecting dust Please don't discourage me because of the usual caveats: Ferrari parts prices, Ferrari labor prices, parts availability, etc. I am a dedicated DIY'er and am sure that I can accomplish anything necessary to get this thing back on the road. However, I do need some help trying to figure out what this thing is worth. I realize that the price is strictly dependent on condition, and I haven't even seen it yet. What kind of price should this go for? What's it worth after I get it running? Thanks for your help.
Hello twright, here's a website where you can learn more about the 365GTC4 : http://www.365gtc4.com Is the same engine as the 400 serie. Theodore http://www.f400club.com/forum/
i'd be the last one to try and talk you out of it, just the opposite in fact...for a competent DIY'er there isn't anything complicated about that car. but as to value, how could one possibley assess current or future value with the information given ? body, interior, compression, gearbox, rubber...and much more, will determine value...and while i understand that you likely don't know much more, at this point your guess is as good as anyone elses... a nice condition, service current C/4 is a $125K car...which is precisely why a comparable GT4 2+2 is massively undervalued at $45-55K. a project quality C/4 should be had for about half of the abovementioned number...
Also, while the engine and drivetrain is very similar to the 365 GT4 2+2 and newer series, the C/4 discussion is carried in the Vintage section and that is where the experts on value for that model hang out. Good luck, they are cool cars, with some of the best sounds in the Ferrari world!
I tend to doubt the car was a good runner when parked. It was probably getting tired on a number of fronts and the owner never got around to getting it restored (especially once he learned what it would cost!). Generally speaking, a car with needs + the needed parts + free labor will cost the same as a good driver. Drivetrain: An engine rebuild will cost you about $15k in parts (assuming you need valves, guides, pistons, etc. - expect this, even if it runs). Tranny may need some synchros. while you are in there, put in a clutch. Other tweaking may be necessary. If original (which is likely by the description) the car will need every piece of rubber replaced. That said, if the body an interior are in nice shape, it will be a fun project. If the car is straight and rust free with nice interior and unknown mechanical condition, I would guess $60 - $80k, maybe less. Good luck!
