I know someone that knows the builder of the car. It is a tank motor of some variety.

    I did get them, thanks.

Last I heard they were only running about 120 inches, I guess it has been too long since I was at Reno. Yea, you should hear a Mustang going past the S/F pylon with the nitrous going, Whoooeee what a sound. Worlds fastest motorsport. And if you think real men don't fly those things I was there the year Lefty Gardner landed his P-38 with a piece of wood fence post stuck in his wing tip. He thought it was funny.

BTW Thats a very tidy looking airplane Steve

I'd love to see a Merlin (or its even bigger brother, the Griffon) back in an unlimited hydroplane. The old "thunderboat" nickname just doesn't fit today's generation of turbine-powered craft.

If you're wondering, the Merlin's displacement works out to 27 liters, the Allison's to 28, and the Griffon's to nearly 37!

Or look at it this way: under Ferrari's old system of designating a car by the displacement of one cylinder in cubic centimeters, a car powered by a V-12 the size of a Merlin would be called--

    a Ferrari 2250!

Bryan, some of this must have to do with Ferrari's. Lefty picking my teeth on pylon 7 circa 1979. Honest...took it with my Nikon and a 105mm lens. Got windy after he went past.

I thought this was an aircraft thread. well if it wasnt...it is now. In the world of hi-end corporate aircraft Gulfstream rules.
