Thank God you are not Ferrari's design chief. You would also need to pass an aerodynamics class...

PS: How old are you, if I may ask? I am in my late 40s and I still cannot stand the designs I grew up with. Boring!!!

I don't really care about doing 200mph on the highway... how often do you do it?

You Americans might like to cruise around, but some people don't pay attention to the speed signs... I have a picture with the speedometer needle of the 430 showing 190 mph, but I won't share it, obviously, lest the Met Police is watching.

The problem with this approach is that if Ferrari had stuck to the 250, we wouldn´t have the 275, Daytona and Maranello.

I am the only one that thinks it’s super weird that Ferrari continues to stick light camo on the recent production cars. Even stranger, they produce and release a video where the thumbnail has the odd cladding. Are they not proud of the car?

I would simply suggest that this is a well used development car with lots of miles on it. The limited 'disguise' was simply a look that Ferrari wanted for that stage of the development process. The brand new build cars are saved for the show and display use. I suppose they could have taken one of the press cars out of circulation but maybe they liked the visuals of that beautiful red better than the Giallo Montecarlo look that the journalists got.

Thank god my wife doesn't read FChat, I fear she'd buy a ticket to the land of fish and chips immediately!

Believe it or not, we can extract a ton of performance under 190, especially when straight lines aren't part of the equation. It's ridiculous to cite top speed as a reason to own car these days. 800, 900, 1000hp is an absolute waste (aside from stroking egos) unless it's packaged in an artform or ownership experience that is far more than just a car (Pagani, Bugatti for example).

Also, several years younger than you, so not an old curmudgeon holding onto the golden years. Just an unbiased arbiter of truth who calls out failures, even when others are duped by the mystique.

Ferrari was creating magic early on - the magnitude of which was yet to be seen. The formula was there and it was winning and galvanized it's legacy as new sports cars became what they did. I'm not saying create one great car and call it a day; I'm saying continue to hold onto that golden formula with respect and ground new development within that framework. Evolution instead of revolution, especially today, when that formula would have elevated Ferrari well above the rest, but now the manufacturers are all coalescing into the same drivetrain, same anglular overstyled big plastic designs, and are dumping huge money into marketing and superficial novelties that fool people into thinking these cars are more than they are nowadays. There are some exceptions, of course.

Overall, I think Ferrari going public was the downfall. Focus on delivering for Customers shifted to delivering shareholder value. For $500K, these cars could be far more interesting than they are. But we know what kind of margin Ferrari has on a per-unit basis and that is exactly why they are not what they used to be. Ferrari manages to tread a fine line between giving just-enough to wealthy buyers who are after prestige without compromising earnings. And at the end of the day, that compromises the final product. This is a space where the product shouldn't be compromised. And in my opinion, the 12C is design failure that will sell for the same reason Louis Vuitton sells - to display a price-tag and validate the owner. It's just not exciting in my opinion and is a classic shock-and-awe tactic for short-term benefit.

Good thing we're allowed to have opinions and to make our own decisions with our money! For 500K I will happily putz around in a driver-condition 330GTC or Daytona...

That was not my point. My point was that low speed limits shouldn't mean that we cannot push a car (not necessarily at silly speed) when the time and place are right (i.e. an empty road), thus making modern performance cars still relevant.

Don't you think that is a bit pretentious?

Of course. As long as you allow others to have differing opinions, i.e. liking modern cars... ;)

In the uk .. a lot of 12C orders from existing Gts owners have been cancelled as the new car is simply too pricey . There are quite a few GTS for sale here but in the last few weeks the reasonably priced and spec cars have all sold

What would be the delta from a GTS to the new 12C in the UK?

Do you think the price increase plus what is thought to be a one year delay before Spider versions of the 12C arrive contribute to the buying up of nice 812 GTS cars on the ground in the UK?

I have decided to pass on 12C spider, I just can’t stay a part of the ever increasing prices with no limit. I love the 812GTS, I’ll just buy one of those as soon as I can blow out of the silly 812C.

The hood vents look a bit like aftermarket parts in that high view picture. I don't think they would look quite like that in the flesh.

You are right... at the time of LCDM it was set at a maximum of +10%.... and today we are at 25%... The objectives are no longer the same

No surprise the financial results look ever better when such large price increases are considered. Is it really 25% better than a 812 GTS....
