another garage-queen...... http://www.ferraris-online.com/pages/carintro.php?reqcardir=FE-F40-92336 not my business to question anyones reasons why, and no disrespect intended to those involved -- but -- how can 3 guys have their hands on such an incredible piece of gear, and get less than warm-up time on it? I wonder if it will ever get really enjoyably thrashed, or will it always be in someones "personal collection"....... just curious
Well they butchered Armen's last name, but it appears he put some miles on this beauty. Wish I cld make it mine!
Throwing out the opposing position: Cars can serve many different purposes. Ferraris in particular are great to look at. Some people love looking at them and showing them. Nothing wrong with that, especially when the mechanicals are also clearly being matained. Just because something can be driven doesn't mean it has to be. If I bought a Babe Ruth homerun ball, would I be wrong not playing baseball with it? Some people simply get as much pleasure from polishing it up and trailoring it around as others might get from tracking it every weekend. I have some really nice clothes that I try on every once and a while but rarely wear outside of the house. I like that. who knows why I have no problem with the concours crowd.
For a minute there, I thought you were ready to buy, James. I Have no idea how it feels like to own the F40 for the first time. Say you are waiting for the delivery of the F40 this afternoon.. what would you do.. you still have lunch.. go on with your regular afternoon... And then it comes, show up in front of your eyes,... Man...
And then you order another espresso, make a few calls on the mobile, check the news on your computer.... "hey guys, just put it in the garage over there, next to the Enzo, yeah, there beside the GTO, I'll check it out tomorrow.....gotta go to my club now..." LOL Really patpong; "it's just a car"...... that's what they all say right? No biggie...
I used to be offended by "garage queens", but no longer. They are just being "saved" for future owners like myself.....well, maybe not in the case of an F40...but maybe.
haha "Armen Guggashion" garage queens make me angry too, that's why i like jim spiro with his dirtiest f50 in the world dealy (at least when he owned it)
104799 is owned by someone else, but still in Louisianna and still being driven; Jim's too busy driving 0808 to work everyday...!
Somthing tells me that car has suffered the same dease that may other Ferrari's suffer from...Disconectus spedometertus..it's a real shame...You guys realize that this car hasn't even made it to it's 1st oil change milage wise? Knowbody is going to buy a car like that and not drive it, but between 3 owners and only 1000miles? Somthing stinks real bad.
Never forget that the one that are worth the really BIG bucks are the ones that once went 3000+ miles in one day...
Yeah the poor bastards , owned possibly the finest car in the world ( for its time ). Probably paid cash ( loans hard to get on these ) , and moved on to bigger and better. My heart goes out.
WOW, That was my BABY!!! I treated that car like a baby!!! I drove it maybe 40 miles in 4 years! That car was the best F40. Cleanest!!! I never had intentions of selling it, but got offered CRAZY money for it. It's great to follow up with it. And that last name thing?????...
These "garage queens" really are a minefield. My F40 has 20,000km on the clock. I bought it with 19,000 km, that was only 1 month ago. To me the more someone has used the car, within reason of course, the better. The weaker parts will fail early on (say within 10,000km) and then should be replaced with pucka parts. The result is a car with all of the bugs ironed out ready for a good life of hard driving. That said I did have a bad failure recently. The teeth on 2nd gear broke out, from deep within the set. Perhaps a factory fault? Who knows. Luckily no extra dmage was caused (fast braking!!) The point is that I have a car that I feel very secure with. I have a folder full of service records etc. Perhaps "Garage Queens" should rightly remain "Garage Queens".
[jaw drops here] IF you had said 400, I would have been SHOCKED, but honestly, I MIGHT (MIGHT) have been able to picture it. 40 miles is just so short! I hope you weren't the one breaking it in!
How can that be? From what I've read Ferrari test drives their cars about 100km before shipping them off to various markets. So a new Ferrari on the showroom floor should have more than 40 miles! Speedo replacement is easy you know.
I bought the car used! It had 7xx miles when I bought it. Then I drove it 40 miles in 4 years. It sold with around 815 or so.
