Ok guys, I have a 328 that had the key cylinder break vertically in the ignition. From what I am told they do that or shatter horizontally.

Being a foolish optimist I went online for a replacement only to find used ones available. $1,500.
I would have to buy the assembly and extract the piece.

My original thought process was I didn't want to put a used part which may already have fatigue micro-cracks in it. Why buy a part that may fail a few months down the road?

"Well how hard could it be to make I thought?" (famous last words)

Over a month later clever reverse engineering and 3 machining processes, I have the cylinder.
Now I know why no one took this route before. :)

It is made of 7075 Aluminum(strong as steel) stronger than the original part and clear anodized to prevent corrosion.

In the end it would have been cheaper to buy one of the few remaining used parts as I dug myself deeper and deeper into additional costs.

The picture shows the lock assemble exploded view. The key cylinder is the part I had made.

The part is used in the
    Ferrari 206, 208, 246, 288, 308 328, 330, 365, 400, 400i, 512, F40, F50.

    Now my big question:

Should I have quantities machined and sell them?

I would have to sell the lock cylinder for $200 since it ends up taking three machining processes and anodizing to produce and hence is expensive to make.

Is there a demand? I am fine with letting it go with just mine.

    Thanks for any input.

Based on my experience no. I listed 2 complete 355 tumblers with OEM keys for $60 each and had no interest. Does not appear to be a high fail part.
