134-year-old woman's birthday candles elevate global warming to critical levels

She is from Mohodi, about 40km from Polokwane.

This is her birthday party... and it looks like she slept right through it.

congrats to her, i would love to live to 134, but nah, sadly i expect to be long gone by then.

 

134?? I really wonder if they had a proper birth registry in Limpopo back in 1874... or is it rather like "I was born in 1874...plus/minus 30 years .... sort of"?

I can guarantee there is no proof of her birth, I have lived all over Africa and have been introduced to many "tribal" people who claimed to be over 100 years old. I met a guy in Tanzania who traveled a hundred miles on foot to meet me when he learned I liked David Livingstone, He promised he had met him when he was a child and had hundreds of people to confirm this fact. He was very old, probably late 80's or 90's but claimed to be 140+ . I can claim I shook the hand of a man who shook David Livingstone's hand.. However I doubt it.


Also many tribal chiefs claim to be a hundred plus years old. I will find a pic of a chief I stayed with in Ghana who claimed to be 115 and his mother who died a year before my arrival in 2001 would of been 130+ (By the way her body was still sitting in a chair in their hut all dressed up! ) I tried to take a pic with my camera (secretly of course) but without a flash it didn't take.

A lot of the rural people don't keep track of time, many have watches just for decoration. I traded a Suunto watch for a elephant tusk once worth thousands,, but couldn't bring it back to the states of course.

Many people keep track of births by stating, so and so was born when the last flood happened, or when the bridge was built.

I am not putting these people down in anyway, in fact its nice to travel to a rural place such as Ghana, visit a remote tribe, throw the watch away and join
into village life... Someday I hope to write a book about the fun that can be had
