hi I’m having a hard time finding a supplier to reply to me and I can’t seem to find anything on the forum, but what is the best 140 amp alternator to buy and do they just bolt on or do I need to change anything else or add any brackets or anything. Also, at the same time I should change the regulator rectifier I imagine so any advice where to find those parts would be appreciated

My mechanic had mine rebuilt by someone in the PNW. New ones are (apparently) nla and these were the only guys he trusted. I wish I knew the name.

I appreciate the reply but I’m looking to upgrade to 140 amp not rebuild the existing one. They are available, but I can’t seem to get an answer on if they bolt right on or if I need an extra bracket or anything else that’s what I’m looking for.

You did not say so I presume you are talking about Ferrari 348 and about upgrading to the 140 Amp Denso that was offered one time by Ferrari. You did not mention but I assume that you currently have the 105 Amp Denso. The 140 Amp alternator is Ferrari p/n 156235, Denso No. 101211-7580. This alternator requires a slightly shorter top bracket which was supplied with the alternator as part of the conversion kit (No. 70000807). Everything else is the same as for the 105A Denso. The shorter top bracket was not available as a separate part so, if you buy Denso 101211-7580 (I see one currently on Ebay), you would need to find a used bracket or have one fabricated.

The kit included a different alternator harness, the mount bracket and different studs for the front of the motor that needed to be used to make the bracket fit. I installed many of the kits under warranty.

I got all the parts you mention with the kit I bought, plus a couple of rubber bushes but, on my 1991 Euro 348, I only needed to use the top bracket from the kit. I presume my car originally came with a 105A Denso but I am not sure as there was a Honda or a Toyota Denso in it. Perhaps more parts from the kit are needed if going from existing 105A Delco.

The kit was only intended for Delco equipped cars. Factory supplied kit for free for many years after warranty was out. I installed one on every customer we had with Delco equipped car and factory paid. Every car that did not get converted was either not a dealer customer or was not being serviced by a good dealer. The Delcos were garbage and the factory knew it. This was a gift from them for selling you a car with such poor parts. Back then Ferrari actually cared.

According to the information I have, there were two 348 alternator kits issued by Ferrari:

    1. Kit: 70000809, 105A Denso 101211-5071 (Alternator p/n 155785) ; I guess this was mainly for the purpose of replacing the 105A Delco (the recall)

    2. Kit: 70000807, 140A Denso 101211-7580 (Alternator p/n 156235) ; this kit may not have been a free issue but offered as an upgrade to the 105A Denso (?)

It was not a recall. Recalls are a Federally defined action that is mandatory and applies only to safety and emission items. This was a campaign which is taken at a manufacturers discretion and can be free or customer paid.
The 2 kits involved were 70000807 and 70000808. Both had 140 amp alternators. One part number was for rear battery cars and one part number was for front battery cars.

I have never heard of 70000809 but looks to only apply to a few 348s. I suspect it was a customer pay kit simply to replace Delcos which Ferrari quit selling.
