It seems the Ferrari Daytona Spyder 14543 has suffered through another 'fluff job' to somehow make it more appealing to the marketplace. One of the defining characteristics of this particular Spyder was the blood trough painted most appropriately in red by the Ferrari factory. This use of red paint was chosen by Mr Harrah when he ordered the 1971 Ferrari. To simply eliminate this unique feature completely changes the character of the Spyder.

A poor fate for what had once been a very original Daytona Spyder...

Hi, CH. This car was at the factory auction in May, 2009; no mention of said stripe. But it was for sale on eBay in February, 2007, and it still had the stripe. Was it painted over after Dr. Frost's son sold it?

Yes. It had the stripe still in 2009 at the Maranello May 17 sale. The picture with the red stripe came from the 2009 sale.

To me the two photos you posted look to be in the same area and time, but this "no stripe" photo has some photoshop work done (note how vague/undefined the area around the trough is).

    What's the deal?

Perhaps simply it was the convenience of having some recent file pictures of the Daytona Spyder to work with. Though the same "no stripe" picture was also used for the inside cover placement ad in Cavallino magazine issue #177. The magazine picture came out much darker than the original web site photo image.

I wonder how the redone Daytona Sypder actually appears today compared to the pictures shared by etienne (thank you!) here. The auction preview should answer that question.

I can't imagine it would be all that hard for a new owner to put the stripe back-- I have to admit, it does look very nice that way.
