15 hour drive in a 348 - what to pack?

I think they now make a removable clear tape which is similar to blue painters tape. I'd look into something like that to protect the leading edges of the paint.

Other than that. Nothing to worry about. You're gonna have a great time. L

 

It may sound like a sacrilege but you will benefit from ear plugs.

I would also bring a towel and clothes change. If it rains while driving you may get wet and i don't mean with targa off. These cars are not really water tight especially targas.

 

You might want to find some Mobil 1 before you leave. I drove my newly purchased 355 from Naples, Florida to Philadelphia last fall and that was the one thing I had to spend some time searching for (in A rural area of Georgia). Make sure the headlights work properly, since it sounds like you will be doing some night driving. It sounds obvious, but something I forgot to check before I left. Same thing for wipers and windshield fluid. It probably won't be exotic things that get you, but some of the basics. As for pain relievers, I actually found the 355 seats to be fairly supportive; not sure if the same applies to your model.

 

You will get decent mileage per tank out of this.

 

yeap the 348 is prob the most fuel efficient 3 plus litre sportscar i know of......been in convoys and the other fellas will have to at least refill once....your almost 90 litres will keep u going quite a bit.....

You might want to buy some Rain-x. Put on the windshield and if it rains you will not need the wipers. Makes it easier to wash the bugs off too.

All you need is a good camera and a Garmin.

 

Watch out for wildlife on your drive. I spent a few years in New Brunswick and know first hand that there are a LOT of deer, and worse, moose along those roads. You are low enough that they will come right through the windshield if you hit one.

 

You have a 348. The motor is solid. Don't sweat it. After 6 hours you will crave a massage. At normal speeds figure 25 mpg or more. You should get about 350-400 miles per tank, maybe more if you are just highway cruising. I can drive from my house to Monterey on a single tank, unless I am with the Ferrari Club of hotshoes. Generally you want to take Gorilla tape of equivalent, some coolant and oil. It helps to have a bike pump or tire filler device, air pressure gauge and a tire plug kit. Anything else that happens you are going to need a professional. I also pack detailer and some nice buffing cloths. An outdoor car cover is optional in case you have to park in the elements. It can double as a tent if it is weatherproof.

 

Make sure you put that iPhone to use then - some of us are living vicariously, you know.

Not the brightest advice since they're illegal in Ontario and Quebec.

 

Stay on the Canadian side of the border since the paperwork is not complete. Enjoy the ride, stay under the radar and don't give a law enforcement a reason to bother you.

 

The roads are scenic and twisty, but unfortunately not in very good condition. The enormous potholes mean the suspension on my car is constantly under repair...

I quite like Buttertub's Pass in North Yorkshire. I drove it so enthusiastically last time that I set my (uprated) brake pads on fire.

I've driven distance in a 308. You'll be taking stops. You'll need them.
If you bring water, expect to make extra stops

When I crossed into Canada for Montreal F1, the border patrol gave me a bit of grief even though it was my car. Something about lots of stolen cars go out Canadian ports and that's what I was going to do. Coming back into the US? No issues at all.

If something serious happens, a credit card will take care of anything.

Yes, get an assorted box of fuses. It thought Ferrari fuses were "special" since I would see them on Ebay. But when my left headlight stopped rising, and after reading how to troubleshoot the motor on here, I got lucky and fixed it with a standard fuse from Pep Boys. I keep the assorted box of fuses in the boot, along with a tire gauge, a fire extinguisher, and a 5? mm Allen wrench to access the remote battery posts in the engine bay. You need an Allen wrench to remove the right side engine shield in a 355. Again, not sure if that applies to your model, but a set of Allen wrenches probably good to have with you.
