Great fun this car, clearly built in a robust fashion. Three things if my friends here would give insight from their experience! Firstly the car judders slightly when taking off in first when the engine is hot and perhaps turning. If it’s the clutch then would that be requiring replacement or am I slipping it too much or could it be something else? Secondly when really hot the low oil warning console light illuminates. Then next drive it doesn’t, thin oil triggering the sensor. Doesn’t look like it burns oil and no leaks. Thirdly the aircon light is on, Shiltech here suggested a different pump or compressor so can fit new Freon/R12 type fluid. Anyone done this and so has recommendations so I can sound informed haha.

Anyway cheers to all and slowly making my feet smaller so don’t heel and toe by accident every time I brake…

The aircon light is on because there is no/insufficient gas in the system. Suggest you get an aircon tech to look for a leak first before start pulling things apart :)

The judder when turning at low speed might be chatter from the limited slip differential. Might have the gearbox/differential (all one unit) fluid changed to Redline MTL gear oil, it will also improve shifting.

It could also be caused by a worn clutch disc/pressure plate, do you know when the clutch was last changed?

Is the oil level actually low? You measure the oil level about 10 minutes after driving (ie the engine fully warmed up). Measuring while cold will not give the correct reading.

You can convert the ac system to R134, you don't need a new compressor unless the old one has failed. Systems converted to R134 will need to be topped up every couple of years, as the more modern ac coolant will diffuse through the older style ac hoses causing slow coolnt loss. Replacing the very long ac hoses to modern "barrier" hoses is a big custom job that few seem to bother with.

Ah. Thanks you so much both. They are very interesting points that I’ll take up and use in solving this and making sure the wrong thing doesn’t get done. Especially to avoid a new clutch and compressor. Look for a leak and keep the compressor will be the challenge. See if I can see if it’s the diff. I think the oil level may be slightly low even though the light doesn’t come on for 20+ miles, find it a bit difficult to read the dipstick, so will creep it up and test after 10 minutes each time. Thank you!!

P.S. think the clutch just might possibly possibly have done 70k miles as the history only has slave cylinder and other bits. Think I like your suggestion of thinking diff. to challenge the mechanics though. Will try lots of straight takeoffs to see if it judders then. Think it might not so much!
