I was forced out of Ferrari ownership because it was getting so outragous to maintain the car.
Like I have said in the past that Ferrari ownership is a privilage and a gift given to people and I just wish I could afford a new car.
ya know.......I hate to say it, but I've had 3 Ferrari's, now I don't have any.........and this is what keeps me from getting another one.......I mean even IF you have the money to do this, do you WANT to? I'm not bashing, I mean I understand we all make choices, it's just that I really felt like the company was RAPING me to own thier cars.............It was more than I could stomach................
yeah i know how you feel. thats why i bought 2 V8 Lambo's. now down to one. what the hell was "I" thinking !!!
For everyone that says the 360 F1 is so much better because it is cheaper, wait until that pump goes out of production too...
By then we are going to be fixing them. Also don't forget, at the rate people are wadding those things up we will have a good used parts source the likes of which we have never seen in the Ferrari business. Also keep in mind, Ferrari's for the most part have not been cheap to own. The name has a reputation that is the antithesis of that, a reputation that is not altogether untrue. Just because some of the cars over time go down to Toyota price levels to buy does not mean they are cheap to run. Many people were spoiled by the 3 series cars being affordable to buy and run. That is not an accurate depiction of the history of exotic cars.
With spares pricing like that for the 355 F1, and with the same situation with the hydraulics in the Spyders top, prices for these cars should be plumeting! Glad I chose a 6 speed Berlinetta. btw... plug wires were priced at $150 ea. for the 355. One reason I did my C.O.P. conversion. $3K a set for an F40 (as of last month at FOA) JD
Brian, I don't disagree. But I think it will come out that the 3 series cars are the "easiest" on the wallet for maintenance, regardless of the performance increase on later models. I think in the end, that may make them more desirable.
Holy shiest..so am I understanding this right... an F1 hydraulic pump for the 355, roughly costs about the same as a whole running 308GTSi by the time everything is said and done? What will this do for all F1 market resale?
I think for the vast majority of owners, the ones that do not do their own work you will find that the 360's are already cheaper to maintain. That is based on not only my own observation but also that of other shop owners as well. The reliability of the 360 F1 sys long term may modify that. It is a very good car. I also believe that as that becomes more common knowledge it will help the value of those. Over the next year depending on reliability issues with the 430 as that fleet gets bigger and some miles on them we will see if the 360 is the new 308 or the new 328.
That is correct Gabe. Probably nothing, how many of you knew about the price of the pump before this thread? None and other potential buyers of the car won't either. Also, the price has been $16k for sometime, I think most owners find an alternative to paying $16k, whether it's buying a used one or getting one rebuilt. The price of the parts in my opinion is what scares some of the short-time owners away. Only the really "hardcore" dedicated guys are willing keep these cars and put up with ridicilous parts prices. The others will move onto Porsche's, Vipers, etc.
That depends entirely on the rate of failure, but people are spending LOTS more keeping 355 motors running in my shop than transmissions so I wouldn't say the F1 sky is falling. In the shops in Nor Cal almost everyone has a 355 taken apart rebuilding the top ends. Compared to that F1 problems are rare.
Here's the F355 Spider ECU that controls the top and seats. I used to have a TRS-80 computer that was more sophisticated.... http://ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=256143
Here's a fun statistic: I just sorted my FNA master price list (80,000+ items) and there are 293 unique spare parts costing more than $10,000 each.
The 355 wire could be 150 but I don't consider that any less absurd than 200. Might as well be 1000. I think your cop is a great idea. I was so happy Ferrari went that way finally.
You have to understand that that list will only contain prices for parts actually ordered. There are many parts in that catagory that are not on the list because no one has bought one through FNA yet.
SCOCCA LASTRATA 456 GT USA MY 95 $95,437 Really, it's mostly 456 items and a few intelligible things like: NOSE F1 2000 SCALA 1:1 $19,000 360 CHALL MOTOR $43,561 ENGINE F40 $38,639
...a day of reckoning is on it's way...! Ferrari knowingly rips off its customers, both with parts and service. Just wait until those of you with the ceramic brakes have to start replacing discs..! Seriously, the manufacturer treats it's customers like sheep to be sheared (ala the FXX). When it's 'bargain' car sees a simple pump replacement cost more than the cost of a new Honda Civic, it's time to start boycotting the product. Of course, when people are willing to pay up to 75K over MSRP for a 430...well, we get what we deserve.
