    I also have a '79 308 with 16" wheels.

I run Bridgestone SO3 Pole Positions, 245/45 on the rear and 225/50 on the front. The tires look great and feel great. They are very sticky. I have about 2,000 miles on them right now and there has been no appreciable wear.

I have used S03s and loved them. But technology marches on - rapidly.

For an overview and comparison of what is out there, look at "The Tire Rack", specifically at the max performance tire catagory.

Tire charicteristics llike wet traction, ride harshness, tread wear and dry traction are rated against other tires. This lets you balance the tire characteristics to your needs.

Then, going to the individual tire pages, you can compare dimensions and prices.

Without doin back to back tire testing, I find it difficult to rember how one tire felt at the traction limit compared to another, or the wet braking charicteristics, or ride harshness. New tires will almost always feel better than the previous (worn out) set you just replaced.

For the above reason, articles, like http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=4&article_id=10252 are usefull to compare tire performance characteristics like steering directness, breakaway feel and harshness.

rcraig - What make (brand) of wheel are you using on your 308? I have an '82 Mondial & am considering a wheel/tire change from the 390 TRX wheel & am looking for suggestions. Thanks

VITO- THE PERSON I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM PUT 16 X 8 REAR AND 16 X 7 ORIGINAL FERRARI WHEELS I GUESS OFF OF A 328. SORRY, BUT I'M NOT SURE. I LOVE THE ORIGINAL LOOK, AND CAN USE BETTER TECHNOLOGY TIRES. HE HAS PIRELLI P-7'S (ALMOST NEW) ON IT WHEN I GOT IT BUT I ASSUME WHEN IT COMES TIME FOR ME TO CHANGE THE TECHNOLOGY WILL BE SO MUCH BETTER. I WANT SOMETHING THAT WILL REALLY STICK ON OLD NOT PERFECT BACK ROADS.

The '88 328 and Mondial came stock with Goodyear Eagles mounted on 16 inch 7's and 8's. Those tires aren't made anymore, however, Goodyear makes a modern Eagle called the Eagle F1. I have these on my '88 and they are wonderful tires in the dry and wet - stick very well, non-directional tread, not noisey. This tire gets consistent very high praise on Tire Rack's buyer's feedback area - higher than any other tire in the stock dimension (205/55 and 225/55). Pricing is pretty good too!
