Hi. I friend of mine cleaned out his warehouse and he gave me a set of 16' Testatrossa mag wheels (8' + 10' wide, center mounted) The wheels are in a good shape no major damages or corrosion but need to get refinished (just paint). I'm just wondering what a set of those are worth? Thx JK
depends on condition and how fast you want to get rid of them. But they usually are pretty expensive. unless you want to do a fchat friends and family deal????? (I've been looking for a set for a while now)
There is no need to sell them but I want to know about the value and maybe if I get an interesting offer .?! I bought a set of OEM 16' wheels for my 308 last year and their were quit expensive! Condition as I said, needs paint but nothing else. Best JK
You might be better served by describing them as: stock 16" diameter center mounted (single bolt) Testarossa wheels 8" and 10" wide (they are made from an Aluminum alloy, not a Magnesium alloy).
Depending on the quality, painting alone could set you back between $100/wheel (cheap job) and $400/wheel (dealership). Just the paint alone is about $90/pint for all four and that doesn't include primer and reducer (thinner). Thanks for your honesty about the condition but pictures will help appraise the wheels better. PS. If these have the printed decals, then I may know someone who has them

Nope -- they have a high Magnesium content, but they are not technically a Magnesium alloy (which would require being more than 50% Magnesium). I challenge you to provide any official Ferrari document that says those wheels (or 308 wheels) are a "Magnesium alloy" -- even in the 308 documentation they are called "light alloy" not "Magnesium alloy".
To be honest, I'm not 100% sue these are TR wheels, but for what other car? There are Ferrari letters in the front and the size is 8' + 10' by 16' ??? I just trying to upload some pics but the system is really slow .

After some research in the forum I think those wheels are from a '85 or early '86 TR. In 1986 Ferrari changed to alloy?!. So my wheels seems to be not often to find;-) Thx JK
OK. I've seen hubs for sale for about $600 each and polished wheel center plates for about $100 each. Along with the refinishing (say $200/wheel) will come to about $900/wheel in extras. Keep this in mind when offers are being made. As for just the wheel price itself, I don't have the foggiest idea what they are worth alone but if I were a buyer, I'd definitely be pricing everything. Yes, the later wheels have less Magnesium content. From the weight measurements comparing the KN reproduction 308 wheels to the stock 308 wheels, it works out that the earlier "light alloy" material is about ~30% Magnesium IIRC -- still very cool, very desirable, and a b*tch to refinish , but, technically, not a "Magnesium alloy". The Ferrari PNs should also be shown on the back of the spokes -- including that in your ad would fully, and exactly, define what you are offering for sale.
Steve is right about the mag wheels being a beeotch to refinish. I haven't heard of a set lasting more than a few years without bubbling the paint. I sought out a set of 1987 16" aluminum versions for this reason to replace the mag TRXs on my '85 TR. I paid $1200 for my set, which did not include splines or trim rings...just swapped them from my TRX wheels. But I would say the aluminum ones are more valuable than the mag version. Of course that was three years ago and prices have gone up but at least it's a price point for you. Steve likes to be pedantic about the name of the wheels, but these are commonly called that, and they are stamped "magnesium". I would feel comfortable selling them as such. And yes, please post pics of the part numbers.
Hi Team I was recently in Clermont Ferrand talking to the chaps at Michelin about Ferrari Testarossa tyres. and the word on the street is that the future of the 280/45VR415 Michelin TRX does not look good. It is such a pain to make and they have such very limited fascilty to make this tyre, balanced against the much easier and more profitable tyres that can be made on this machinery. so the recommendation is; fit the 16" wheels; and fit: 225/50ZR16 Michelin Pilot Sport front & 255/50ZR16 Michelin Pilot Sport For what it's worth we do have stock of the TRX GT front 240/45ZR415 Michelin TRX GT I am sorry for this news it isn't ideal, However to be frankl i was amazed Michelin continued making it as long as they did, the sales were utterly dismal, and cannot have justified the effort and investment. they have ahd several attempts at it, but Michelin being Michelin they would not release a tyre unless they are 100% happy with it. so i should just move on.
I'm a bit baffled how Michelin can be struggling to make a tire that they've made for over 30years. Let us get this straight, they're producing a more modern front tire(TRX GT) but are stopping production on the rears. What is the sense of that? Seems very odd to me.
