I have the original 14" rims/tires..... tired of having no choice in tires.... does anyone have a nice set of 16" for sale, or know of anyone else that does? (mine is a 1978 GTS)
I need a set also. When I got my 85 308 someone switched the rims to TRX Metrics. The spare is a 16" rim.
There was a nice set of 16" QV wheels on FerrariAds before the server move. IIRC, it was AR74Spider who was selling them...not sure if he still has them or not. (no affil....) Good luck! JIM
Yes, I am in a similar boat. My tires on my 14" stock wheels are in need of replacement. Since there is not good tire I am thinking about going to a larger wheel. Any suggestions of sharp looking and handling wheels that will fit with the least hassle? (that is, not having to mess with the suspension.)
A lot of people (myself included) run the Superperfomance reproductions. Other than an odd balance problem with the fronts that's easily fixed with a hubcentric ring they are great. They look good and perform well too.
Could you elaborate on that easy fix? My superformance fronts are also shaking, no matter how hard I try to balance them. Thanks!!! Hans P.S. Other than that: praise for the superformance wheels! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cross posted from another forum: <<<the center "hub" that protrudes from the center of your brake rotors, is what centers the wheel to your car plus it carries some of the load of the wheel to the car. You definitely do not want to depend on the bolts/lugs to center your wheel to your car. Right now your wheels are somewhat centered to the hubs of your car, also the downside of what you are doing is putting load onto the bolts/lugs of your wheels. NOT A GOOD THING. In extreme cases where hubcentric rings are not installed on to wheels, there will be harmonic vibration from the wheels at high speeds, 60+mph. The hubcentric rings are sized to fit the "hub" of your car, eliminating any play from the wheel and hub connection. The hubcentric ring centers and rests the load of the wheel on to the hub of your car. Get the hubcentric rings onto your wheels ASAP!>>> Hope this helps... JIM
http://www.superformance.co.uk/ Also try QV London - they do a replica 16" wheel as well : http://www.hamletcg.co.uk/qv/qvimenu.htm. Not sure of the price on these but expect around the same as Superperformance. $2.04:£1 is pretty unfriendly for you guys right now though!
Thanks Birdman! I'll drop Superformance a note then. I already found out (in the process of my upgrading to QA-1 shocks) that taking the wheels off and putting them back on helps sometimes. Makes sense now. Oh, I love this FChat site!!! Hans
Did a quick phonecall to Superformance and got the rings shipped the same day. Got the rings on the car now and problem solved. No more vibrations at 60+ mph.... I was shocked to see how thick these rings are, really! I mean, I was expecting a 1/32" or so mismatch between the hubs and the wheels, less even. Not so. The rings were something like 3/16" in thickness!!! That's not a machining error, that's plainly the wrong specs on these wheels!!! It makes me sick to think that I've been doing 250 kph (156 mph) on wheel bolts alone.... Points for Superformance for promply shipping the rings (@no cost), penalty points for them for shipping wheels that are not okay! Anyway, problem with vibrating front wheels solved, thanks to FChat. Thanks guys!!! Hans
The repops look OK but not correct for those who are anal like me. Im only mentioning this because others neglected to. The rears look way wrong and didnt cut it for me, I bought a set of originals from TRutlands after my repop saga.
Newman is correct. They are heavier than OEM too....glad you got the concentric spacers in before something BAD happened! Begs the question why they'd sell them without knowing our problem... Goodyear called me last week they are aware of our application problem, and will get back to me, on a 205 70VR14 soon...... Really there are two versions of the 16"s????? 7.5W x 16 or the staggered 7.5"W Front and 8.5"W. rear????
16x7 and 16x8 only, they come with cast in raised ferrari lettering or a decal. Mine have the raised letters.
Yes, do use hubcentric rings on a 308 carb or i. I had the same problem (unbalance) with my Compomotive TS rims. In the picture is the hub of my '81 GTSi with hubcentric ring. Image Unavailable, Please Login
A lot of aftermarket rims use these rings to adapt them to several brands of cars as a cost cutting measure. I dont like them and would rather just have a rim that fits the hub in the first place as well as looks correct.
