    Hi Everyone:

I'm listing this thread because I miscalculated the information given to us from Intouch1 about the Euro base price information he posted on his thread.

I just want to make sure no one gets my earlier incorrect calculation.

    This should be correct:

    162900 Euro's = $238 K USD.

My apologies for posting the incorrect value and my thanks to Intouch1 for the original posting.

Please refer to Intouch1's posting [458 pricelist (scans)] as it has a lot of excellent information on option prices.

Again, I'm very sorry for the earlier error. I know many were waiting for this information and I would hate for my mistake to cause any anxiety.

The official EUR base price is close to 198k (in France). That's 291k in USD.

    Probably with.

In the US fully optioned with taxes will be close to 300K IMO.

    It will be interesting...

Jim, that is assuming a base car at $230 with $30k in options, plus 10% (tax and license) than the price is right there.

By the way I say a stunning 8C at FoBH the other day and that was $291K with options.

That's too high as well. I like my 8C a lot but don't think it was worth what I payed for it.

In todays world I'd price the 8C spyder at 200K all in, a Calif at 175K all in, and a 458 at 225K all in.

    I think things have changed.

It's interesting to see where RR is pricing their new Ghost. The msrp. of that one is much lower than the Phantom.

Ghost pricing shows that RR is aware of the market and they are threading lightly.
    A base price at $245k,nicely equipped at $260k-$280k .
Last night I looked at one with all possible options at $306k and that car made an impression as worth every penny of that price.
Cheaper than Mulsanne and much, much better looking in person.
It will steal a lot of sales from Phantom for sure.

The favourable responses to the 458 seems to have encouraged Ferrari to put a big sticker price on the latest model. That along with a seemingly endless options list has allowed them to build much more value into each vehicle leaving the factory.

Should be interesting to see how prices hold after the car is released into this climate. Not to compare it to Lambo, but there are new 2010 LP560-4 Spyders out now, optioned out to $270k offered at nearly $20k off!

The 162K Euro figure excludes taxes.

With Italian VAT (20%) the base price will be around 195K Euros (around $290K without any options).

However, I'm sure that the US base price will be significantly lower than that.

    Jim,

I always thought the Calif should have come in at a base of $150K with all options at $175K to move the volume they need to move. Also I think Ferrari is shooting themselves in the foot if they keep moving the V8 Mid Engine Cars prices up in leaps and bounds like they have been doing. Your spot on with your pricing on the 458 at $225 though.

    Best,
    Tony

Yes they are shooting themselves in the foot but, as a long time Ferrari employee was telling me a few days ago, "the guys who manage the firm nowadays don't like cars, they are not interested in the make's future, its image or its fans. They are just managing their career, making as much money as possible for themselves, and by the time the firm has to pay for their mistakes, they will long be gone to Mercedes, Lamborghini or Rolls Royce, depending on what the Chinese and the Russians are buying at that time"

    with all due respect...

saying what the car will cost in the US with taxes is a dumb way to compare the cars... too many variables... so why compare... a few states have no to very low sales tax... then you got california which has ridiculous sales tax and ridiculous registration. might as well leave taxes out of it... we don't have a VAT here so it makes it somewhat irrelevant as far a direct comparo...

    Just my $.02

Well if they don't "like" cars and they don't care about the Marque they are fooling me.

Its hard to imagine that the 458 was produced by a company led by such people as your friend describes.

But if your friend is correct then I can only imagine the robots running the competition......

    WAIT.....There isn't any competition!

    ; )
