Hello menbers ,this is my first post in this forum. I am a pro restorer in Brazil. We start a project to put the original body in the chassi 0049s. As you know the car was rebodied in 2000 as a Barchetta . The car was purchased in auction in Peblle Beach last year, and for our surprise it came along with the original Berlinetta body which is still in good condition. I am in the quest for all info about this first ghia made body. being the only 166 inter Ghia in existence I found out to be very difficult to achieve photos and or literature. Here are some pictures of the car today , hope you members enjoy... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Salzano, I am sure nearly all Ferrarichat members applaud you effort to return 049S back to original. Maybe you will start a trend.
Hi Alexandre, I have nothing worthwhile to contribute, but I'd like to say that I'm glad to hear that this little car is finally getting what it deserves. The restrained beauty that some Ferraris possess goes right over most people’s head. john

Well in that case the solution is easy, cut the chassis between the two numbers and make two cars, the current barchetta and the original Ghia..... What is the history of these two numbers? Ciao Oscar
Great, a unique car will be saved. You have a bit of a job on your hands though; do you have any other parts of the original body? (Fittings etc) Oscar's suggestion is of course very good, but rather send that Barchetta body to me so I can mount it on a Cobra chassis. Would make a pretty nice hot-rod.
It is 0049 S (four digits) and not 049 S (three digits). And 0070 M exists already and this since 60 years (212 Vignale Coupé). Marcel Massini
Is this the same car restored by the factory in 1990, and then found by Jean Sage in the deep recesses of the factory seven years later?
We are really glad for the members support for this project... As everybody knows, all the resto project starts in getting info about the model and constructions technics of the era; As Marcel Massini posted the car has the front end modified and we must turn it back to original appearance. We are able to construct every part needed, but the dificult part of our job is to get the exact measures of the front end and grille. Does anyone knows if the clusters of 166 inter Ghia and the 195 inter Ghia are the same?
I agree about the Touring body. But let's be practicle here. You can get good money for it. So sell it and use the money for the restoration. just one man's opinion tongascrew
Hi great pictures. In the third picture down you can see where the chrome strip molding was located on the front fender. It looks as if there were three[?] port holes thru the fender. I don't suppose those moldings still exist? If the hood opening is as original the hood scoop may be all that's needed to be removed. In the original pix of the Ghia there is a ridge on the center of the front cowling from the front of the hood opening to the top center of the radiater grill which appears to now be missing. I can't tell if this ridge extended onto the hood. I wish I could be of more help but I am sure there are Ghia experts out there who will be glad to assist you. Good luck. this is a great project. just one man's opinion tongascrew
I know that returning the car to original is the right thing to do but in my opinion the front grill on the original 166 is not asthetically pleasing at all. If that grill were on anything other than a historic Ferrari would anyone else think that it was attractive?? If it came from the factory and didn't look that good (once again, my opinion) should it be returned to that look? I look forward to following the progress of this restoration!
Yes, the car should be restored to its original specification, although I don`t like it visually! Agree with you reg. the front-grill. Its ugly! Ciao! Walter
