    Guys:
Before ANYBODY starts bidding on this item I HIGHLY recommend to check the description VERY CAREFULLY and especially the origins where this item comes from. Then start your research. You can also contact me by PM.
Another key word is the STOLEN 166 MM/53 Spider Vignale #0314 M (28 May 2000 stolen in Brescia, just after the Mille Miglia) that was found in an Italian warehouse in December 2007, in bits and pieces and totally dismantled with 70 percent of the items still missing today.

IF stolen than one can check the numbers on the gearbox and compare with 0314m.......

It is somewhat strange that a seller of an item as unique as this would not list the serial number in the item description.

I also note the colour on the inside of the bellhousing. I may be way off the mark here, but didn't they paint the insides of the castings green? (not that the colour is terribly important)

That is a sealant used to keep the oil in the gearbox.

Several people have contacted the seller and asked for the internal number and photos showing the internal number.
    No replies so far.

    Tom
I am not shooting you, not at all.
And I am NOT saying that this is the gearbox from 0314 M.
However, the chance is VERY BIG that there is the connection to 0314 M.
That's why we all want to see a photo showing the internal number on the gearbox.
I know what the numbers should be and have the factory documentation to prove. Besides that I have photos of these numbers before the car was stolen and therefore am in the position to compare and verify. And yes, the insurance company is also interested in this case.

We've used sealant that is green but there may be red sealant as well. It works very well and also prevents corrosion.

    Jim,

In engines and I suppose gearboxes a paint is used to promote the flow of oil back to the sump: In a bell-housing, which is the only visible internal part, there is no oil.
Ferrari used the paint on the inside to make sure that no casting sand that might have remained behind on the surfaces of a casting could end up in the oil and do harm.

    But who am I telling....

In a 166 Box there is oil in the Bell housing as the seals are a bit primitive. The stuff we use isn't original but it protects the castings and seems to work well. As you know I'm not a purist. I also use modern bearings/seals/gears/ and even Porsche syncro's in mine.

    Hi Marcel,
I know this guy and where he is located ...I can ask to his friend about the serial number of the gearbox. I'll do my best for a clear photo with the number stamped on...
    Ciao, Mari

Well, auction has ended without any bidding.
And the gearbox appears to be from a 212, not from a 166 MM.............misrepresented.
Plus, the seller never provided a photo of the numbers stamped, despite 8 inquiries.

Typical Italian eBay auction. Pretty much every item that I have bought from someone in Italy on eBay has been misrepresented.
Would you buy a high dollar item from someone named "Black Toxin"?

I got a set of wood handled screwdrivers from "ebay.it" represented as replica Ferrari items. They arrived. They looked identical to the real item... except 2/3 the size. I had to shake my head and laugh.

I stopped buying thru ebay simply because 99 percent of the sellers are just plain crooks and always mis-representing the item.
And only a fool would buy a genuine gearbox that may originate from a stolen car.

At least you didn't pay $500K for the replica GTO at only 1/18 the size!

I've bought (and sold) hundreds of things on Ebay and never had a problem. So are you saying
    that Ebay.it is the problem?

Here is my latest purchase which you can see all of on my scca history page: http://www.ferrariexperts.com/SCCA%20results%20test%20page.htm

Were any 250MMs fitted with 5 speed boxes? All my literature says they're 4 speed.
