Very nice and congrats! Edward, I knew you were looking for a CGT but didn't know you found one that fast. Btw, are you planning to install the car lift?

TN, thanks! - are you still on the hunt?

Yes, but after I saw the post on BendPak's air hose fittings breaking, I'm doing some more research....I really just need to build another garage :)

The more I read about the GT, the more it sounds that a lot of respect is required. From Jalopnik:

"During the development of the Carrera GT, famed Porsche tester and man with gigantic brass attachments Walter Rohrl told Australian website Drive that he was actually scared of the car and wanted them to fit traction control because of the unpredictable behavior at the limit."

That's not something you hear a test driver say very often! Full article here: Porsche That Killed Paul Walker 'Dangerous,' 'Needs Respect'

Interesting read....interesting how some opinions stated were that it may be the most dangerous car, but the world's greatest road car ever made. Interesting dichotomy.

Yes, still looking for a silver with terracotta interior, but only after I let go of the GT3 per wife :)
Funny, but I was also interested in getting a car lift but thought I wait for you to go first. :)
Has always been scared of the car lift due to a malfunction especially with another car beneath. Of course, would rather build a larger garage if I have an option.

I understand your concern, but remember when you rode in my 211? ;)
My point is that I realize the challenge and respect the CGT.
However, I think the important point is for any driver to know his/her limit - pro, amateur, or novice.

I've spun my 211 many times on track driving it 10/10's. I've mentioned it elsewhere, you cannot save a spin when the rear end gets loose and comes around at high speed. The CGT is no different.

There is no way I would drive the CGT 10/10's. It definitely demands focus. But I am happy giving it a Sunday drive and giving it the respect it deserves.

Wow, Eddie. After reading all the accounts and such I'm shocked your CGT didn't bounce off of my Scud two or three times while we traveled down PCH to Malibu yesterday.

Upon careful reading of Walter Rohrl's cautionary account, I noted Rohr's "scared" comment related primarily to track testing the CGT in wet/raining conditions. A concern? Yes, but with a small amount of care, avoidable.

A loss experience of 70 units of the 1270 (+/-) units sold is not in and of itself extraordinary. We simply do not know all the details of the 70 various losses. If these losses were vehicles such as a Toyota Corolla, the number could be frightening. The uses of such Toyotas are quite predictable and 70 out of 1250 would be a loss ratio of grave concern to the manufacturer and safety experts.

Use applications of CGTs, on the other hand, are very different from those of a Toyota and inherently far riskier. Of the 70 CGTs that were lost, how many were lost on a track vs street or other venue? How many lost due to design/manufacturer's defect? How many lost due to external hazards or error on the part of another driver in a competitive contest?

I know that with my Scud, a few seconds of spirited acceleration can lead to 80 - 90 mph speeds within a few heartbeats...if a hazard presents itself, really bad stuff such as serious injury and death can happen. Car's fault? Is it a "design defect" for a manufacturer to build an incredibly fast street legal car even if it performs all tasks perfectly? Or fail to require all buyers to complete an education/skills program? Personal Injury Lawyers will say "Yes" because they usually file legal actions against those with the deepest pockets (manufacturer). Manufacturers frequently say "No," asserting driver error or improper or faulty maintenance. Juries often have the final say.

Finally, with a very low production run along with limited mileage use, production flaws or weaknesses are more difficult to identify and correct. Anyone who buys a low production supercar should be acutely aware of such issues and risks. Keep informed about your supercar and use some wisdom. Very bad stuff can still happen to the best drivers, but you can lower the risks by using some prudence and common sense.

    Everyone, please be safe!

As long as you are prudent and don't "crack" the throttle you'll be fine.

It's also important to note that tires make a huge difference. Go with Super Sports and replace whatever rubber is on the CGT unless it's brand new.

First of congrats on the GT. It must be so nice having a "rare and unique" modern Porsche. I used to get that when I would DD my 928.. but after the Boxster everyone had one it seemed.

When I read about the crash first thing I thought was "Yeah.. its a GT. It's going to bite you in the @$$ if you're not careful". It doesn't surprise me that even experienced drivers get bitten.

I'm kind of tired of every car being nannied out to high heaven made safe as a castrated ewe. I actually like cars that will try to kill you. Its refreshing to drive a car that doesn't nanny you to death... that you actually have to put the coffee down and turn off the phone and pay attention because if you don't this car could kill you.

I hope you enjoy it for everything that it is. :)

Wow... I saw that article today and while I've always loved the CGT, I'm quite sure it's too much car for me. I LOVE my electronic helpers which keep the back, in the back! Good luck with the car and be careful.

    Great car and congrats!

Had a GT3 and loved that car, but it made me realize what a ****ty driver I was lol

A neutral 911 with no stability control at the track showed me how fast a car could bite you ;)

Ross- He really did not talk about the CGT all that much. Most of the article is more philosophy. The Gullwing and the Miura had pretty strange handling, too, as did early 911s, but they did not have 600 hp and nobody advocated banning them.

A CGT at 7/10ths is fine, probably at 9/10ths, too. Ask Jay Leno about 9/10ths-10/10ths. Trouble is, the average driver cannot tell the difference between 7/10ths and 10/10ths.
