Guys - what are you seeing / expecting in terms of market-clearing prices on 16M? I have 458 on order but have been torn by the thought of the Scuderia, which is still top of mind after I drove one a couple months ago. Now seeing a few more 16M appear pre-owned and the thought of having the drop top version of such a hard core machine is haunting me.

My 458 will come out at about 260k when its all said and done .. and seeing asking prices in the 310 range for the 16M (but not necessarily moving at that price). This leads me to believe that trading prices might be in the high 200's and with a motivated seller even in the 275-280 range. This is not much of a jump from the 458 and I might enjoy the open top more, as well as the more 'mechanical/analog' feel that I think the scuderia has because of the gearbox.

    Thoughts?

IMHO, if you enjoy the open top more, and you live in a climate that is friendly to it, get a spider. I have been through many cars and decided the net enjoyment for me, per car, is at least double when I have a cabriolet. But I think you answered your own question: you want to get the 16M.

Trade it on a 458 Spider once it comes out...

I would not pay more for a 16M.

I live in northwest CT so the open top season is relatively limited. However from March to October it is fantastic. I don't imagine I would use the coupe much more than that period anyways.

Honestly never been a huge spider lover but the 16M seems different. It combines hardcore with open top while preserving almost everything in terms of flat out performance.

So you are saying no more than 260k? Is that realistic?

I think prices in the 260/280K range is extremely unrealistic right now. I see a beauty for sale from Continental asking over 320K for a tdf 750mile 16M. I don't think you are going to find anything decent for less than 300K anywhere.

The 458 spider will come out pretty close to the 16M in price when all is said in done. But, that does not mean they are "the same".

The 16M is a special edition of only 500 cars and will be much more race breed.

Its not just about speed and money. It's about the cars themselves.

To some degree they are apples and oranges. I don't expect the 16M to drop just because the 458 spider hits the market sometime in the next 2 years. If anything, in the long run, the 500 16M's have a better long term chance to retail value than the 2500 or so PER YEAR 458 spiders that will be made.

Long-term you will no doubt be correct but in the short term the 16M is only headed one direction - due south. 16M and Scuderia are expensive relative to a 458 and they are old technology. In the short-term, 458 will hold up well as it is a killer car and the initial demand will far exceed the initial supply

+ 1 We'll see what happens towards the end of the year but for now, with summer almost here, 16Ms will hold up around $300K.

These cars aren't on the same planet. 16m's are priced higher than the 458 because they are more sought after.

16m's are low production and 458's are whomever wants one can have one.

16m's are the best of all worlds. If you own only 1 high end sportscar this is the car. Fast and Drop top. Come on. Nothing close. Even when the 458 spider comes out they will still hold some value but will drop a touch. LOTS of die hard Ferrari guys don't like the 458's and won't change because it's the newest and greatest anymore.

Let's face it guys the cars get driven in Good weather only. Most of these things never see rain and 50% of Ferrari owners don't even know where the windshield wiper lever is. Why would anyone own a hardtop when they can have a blistering fast Drop Top. It's the 1 supercar owner's wet dream. I'd have one in 2 seconds if it were my only Ferrari. No questions asked. The Sand states can hold an argument for no Convertible because it's just too hot a lot of the time to have the top down. The rest of the country Screams convertible.

Hardly any are listed for sale so ANYONE stating that the 300k range is too high and realistic is 20-30k lower needs their head examined.

Miller in Greenwich has two I have personally viewed. A silver 09 and a red 08.
Truly gorgeous.. For some reason the red is at 321K and the silver at 319K, which seem to be in line with the posts.
