Okay let me set the scene, You just got a steering stabilizer/damper for your car, Crossfire in this case, and you jack the car up. Go to your toolbox and realize you don't have a 16mm wrench. No worries you were wanting to buy some stubbies anyway, so you go to Lowes. While at lows you see every set under the sun, but can't seem to find one that includes a 16mm wrench. Frustrated because it's snowing and you're still wearing shorts from going to the gym earlier you leave to go to Home Depot where you run you find less tools than you did at Lowes. You give up and go back to Lowes pick up 2 16mm individual wrenches and check out. Question is, why don't I have a 16mm wrench? All of my sets go 14, 15, 17, 18, etc. WTF? BTW my sockets do the same thing, I try to only purchase 6 point sockets though not the more common 12.
This is what you get when Chrysler tries to go metric. They ignore every convention and use stupid sizes. And if you have an 18mm wrench, you're a wierdo. No such thing in the real world except as a special tool for VW suspension bolts that end users shouldn't mess with. The solution: stop buying retarded POS American junk. At least the Japanese just have that wierd 12mm instead of 13mm fetish and stick to sensible sizes otherwise.
I love my German cars, 8,10,13, that pretty much does it. Rule of thumb: if it requires anything larger than a 13, you are probably going to want to pull out the impact wrench.
Maybe because it = 5/8 ? millimeter / decimal inch / closest fractional inch 5mm 0.20" 1/5" 6mm 0.24" 1/4" 8mm 0.31" 5/16" 10mm 0.39" between 3/8 & 7/16" 12mm 0.47" between 7/16 & 1/2" 14mm 0.55" between 1/2 & 9/16" 16mm 0.63" 5/8" 18mm 0.71" between 5/8 & 3/4" (diameter of a US dime, a penny is 19mm)) 20mm 0.79" between 3/4 & 13/16" 22mm 0.87" 7/8" (a US nickel is 21mm) 24mm 0.95" between 15/16 & 1" (diameter of a US quarter) 25mm 0.98" hair under 1" 26mm 1.02" hair over 1"
What an asinine post, I'm so glad you have all your facts right. The Chrysler is infact a rebodied R170 Mercedes SLK, put together at the Karman facility in Germany. So your solution is just stupid. I don't purchase "retarded POS American junk". I've gotten very familar with 8 and 10, but I've found lately I really enjoy using hand tools. Plus a lot of time you just can't get impact tools up in tight places. Such as changing out motor mounts... Another 16mm and on the SRT (which is the same motor/engine compartment as the SLK 32) it's really tight to get a stubby much less a regular wrench up there. I'll never figured out how MB decided I should have 40 foot pounds of torq on that bolt. I check it every now and then to make sure it's tight, still is I know it's close, but not exact. Not to mention I'm one of those that needs a complete set. Otherwise my brain says "somethings not right here, you're missing something", and yes my tools are all lined up and have a place they should be in.
