Well, the wheels are here from Superformance (they took just a week, and were very well packed), but I'm waiting for the tires to arrive. In the meantime, I thought I might as well post a photo. The original center caps and lug bolts will be used. Of course, I'll do a full photo set once they're on the car.

    Lovely.

Dan, is the finish a bit brighter or is it the photo?

It is a tad brighter, though I think the photo slightly over-emphasizes the difference. Not sure how much might be due to age, but it's only noticeable in a side by side line-up. I spent some years in the wheel business, and these seem to be beautifully made (in the UK).

Dan, who's mounting them for you?

Don't laugh: I get all my tires done at Gerald's over on James Island (Hwy 17 south). We try to arrange which ever car needs tires for our trips to Charleston.

Ever since I was in school down there I've loved that Geralds.

I think this is a very cool upgrade. I would love to see before and after profile photos of the car for comparison.
    Again, very nice.

Firestone. I have connections from my Interstate days. They're also conveniently located (Folly & Harbor View). I'll have to drop off the wheels with the Camry, go home, get the Dino and take it to the shop for the installation and drive it home when they're done. Then, I'll have to drive back to the shop in the Camry to pick up the old wheels and tires (which could well require two trips). Location, location, location.

    Dan,
How much does the 16" wheel weigh? I weighed my wheels a while back and came up with 40 lbs for wheel and tire for both 14" original wheel and tire and my 16" x 8" Gottis with 225/50 tire. Gotti was at 20 lbs., tire at 20 lbs. Never have weighed original wheel by itself.

    John:

Good question. I don't own a scale, but the weight given on the waybill for a two wheel package is 22 kg., or 48.5 lbs. (Let's call it 48, because shipping weights are rounded up). I'd estimate that there's about 4 lbs. of cardboard & packing materials, which would net out at 22 lbs. per wheel. Bridgestone lists the 225/50-16 at 24 lbs. on their spec sheet, which would make a total of 46 lbs. for the assembly. 205/55s are shown at 22 lbs.

So, the "educated guess" is 46 lbs. for the rears and 44 for the fronts. I would expect the Gottis to be a lighter than a one-piece wheel (and your tires are substantially lighter), so this is probably pretty close. Now I want to go to Target and buy a bathroom scale to see how good I am.

this thought really interests me. if these wheels are good (and i expect they are based on the source) and specific, economical and performance tires can be fitted that look the part can be bought for reasonable money, i will buy a set.

i want to know how these perform on the "driver" dino.

I fitted my 16" x7" Cromodoras this weekend. The first set in Oz !!

    Some stats;
the original 14" wheels weigh 5.6kilos, the 205x70x14 tyre weighs 10.6 kilos, totalling 16.2 kilos for the original 14" combination.

The Superformance 16" wheel weighs 10.2 kilos, the 215x55x16 tyre weighs 10.4 kilos, totalling 20.6 kilos for the 16" combination.
So it's an increase of 17.2 kilos per car

Overall, I have a much wider choice of tyre, looks better and I still keep my original wheels/tyres for concour etc etc

    Yasmin:

Thanks for chiming in, and for the weight info. I take it that you fitted 215/55-16 all around. Do you have any interference issues at full lock?

    Any photos?

Dan, I may have missed it, but are your rear wheels wider than the front ones (to accommodate the wider rear tires)?

Can't wait to see a photo of the 16x7 wheels! I am about to either source a set of 14" Cromodoras and put Vreds on or possibly might consider the 16x7. Can someone post their driving experience? How do they feel compared to the 14" XWX or Vreds?

Sidewall flex should be drastically reduced and I suspect since you can find more performant 16" tires there should be a huge difference.

Here's the one and only photo for now. Not very good because my camera lens was fogging up in the horrendously humid weather that we're having, and the light is pretty poor. I'll get more and better photos when I have more time this weekend. Tires and wheels fit perfectly! No time for a test drive yet.
