Manny, Congratulations ! ! ! Now the fun really begins. Looking forward to seeing her at the show this weekend. Ciao, John
I haven't gotten any decent sleep yet... I spent some time with my family after the welcome get together and proceded to wash the car It is still surreal but it is slowly sinking in. I took it to work today and got lots of compliments and open mouth looks. The laptop has a bunch of pictures I will post either tonight or tomorrow... I think I am catching a cold and it seems a sick day is in order . Thanks to everyone for their support and help. More to come, Manny
Wash it?! Manny, Manny, Manny... You have got to change that gear oil. After 1865 miles, you probably want to change out the engine oil, too. Don't kill your new car! I bet there are 10 Fchat guys near you who'd come over and help you do it if you asked.
I bought some stuff to change some fluids last night. Work will miss me today ... I will spend the day figuring how to change the gear oil and fixing the running rich problem.
http://www.camerafilters.com/ec/gearbox.htm Don't do this before lunch. go to the Texas section and pick a spot EDIT: oh, and OILO MOTORE is motor oil, OLIO CAMBIO (or something similar) is the gear box
Don't forget the drop gears at the back of the bellhousing. there is a large 19mm i think bolt on the bottom and another at the top. it'll hold only a few ounces of gear oil, but it is a needed service. the drop gear case looks like half a hotdog bun stick to the back of the bellhousing. hope that helps in locating it.
Actually, Scott, you can drain the "cascade of pinions" from the bottom, reinstall the drain plugs on both the "CoP" and the Olio Cambio, then remove the filler plug (actually, do that first, you don't want to drain without being able to fill back up <grin>) and fill the entire transaxle through the top of the cascade of pinions. When both the "CoP" and transaxle are full, the oil will begin to seep out the bottom of the filler plug at the rear of the transaxle case. The "CoP" is open to the transaxle and any excess spills over into the transaxle. Reinstall the fill plugs for the transaxle and the "CoP" and you're done! -Peter (thanks to ferrarioldman for that tip twenty years ago)
great, now i have a mix of gear oil and transaxle oil. good to know. although for me the fill plug on the trans was easier to get to with the pump.

Well, this has been a couple of weeks I will never forget. The car performed admirably for almost 2,000 miles. And then it happened...
I was cleaning the engine last Wednesday to both change the gear oil, probably the engine oil too, and to have it ready for today's Boardwalk Ferrari car show here in Plano, Texas. I asked my wife to come with me on a little ride to get the engine warmed up and a stop at the gas station for a fill. Her first ride in a Ferrari. After about 10 minutes I drop her at the house (she had to get ready to fly to PR on Friday morning) and decided to take the car around the block making sure it came to full operating temperature. Mind you, I never put the car in third gear. I drove slowly. Just wanted the engine to warm up. I pull in my drive way with the intention of getting the baby car seat to take my wife and Natalie on a ride to Walmart, get the AC recharge kit and some oil. Stop the car, pull the emergency brake and I hear POOF and a warm sensation on my right arm.
I look back on the rear seats and there is a flame on the floor about five inches high and maybe two inches round. Before I can put it out with my hand I hear a louder POOF! and the flame seemed to take over the rear seat. I scream to my wife in the house saying: Fire! Fire! Judith! The car is on fire! Call 911! Call 911! I jump out of the seat and grab my garden hose which, I have had just used to wash the engine and was sitting next to the car on the driveway. I hose down the interior and the flame extinguishes rather quickly. Then I see the flame reapear on the bottom of the car. Here it is where it gets fuzzy in my head.
I remember being on the floor screaming to my wife to open the engine bay and hose the engine down, while at the same time holding on to the hose and pouring water on the driveway and the undercarriage of the car. The flame kept reigniting and I kept it from getting bigger. A neighbor showed with a hose and I screamed to him to hose the engine down... but no one knew how to open the engine bay. Now, I remember getting up and opening the engine bay, but I do not remember how I opened it (with the button on the instrument panel or the emergency release). Next thing I remember is being face up on the ground, hose on hand, winning the battle with the flame. My neighbor took his hose and shot water towards the front of the engine and within three seconds, the fire went out.
I got up in time to see the fire truck turn the corner into my subdivision and pull in front of my house. Next I remember is being on the phone with Tillman asking him, What is the worst that could happen to my Ferrari? He says, "Timing belt snapped" Nope... "It caught on fire." I said.

The engine is untouched... not even smoke damage, to our best inspection. I already filed a claim with my insurance company. I called them before the fire department left. It went something like this: Manny: "I would like to file a claim." Insurance: "What happened sir?" Manny: "My car just caught on fire." Ins: "Which car sir?" M: "The Ferrari." Ins: "Of course! The Ferrari..." They've already inspected the car and are in the process of getting and estimate on the repairs. The car is at Norwoods here in Dallas. Mike has told their upholstery lady to take a look at the car next week. Now I am just holding to see what my insurance company wants to do. Though I keep you guys posted
