Also watch your speed and keep your radar detector out of sight. 30MPH over the limit is an automatic court appearance for "reckless driving". Radar detectors are illegal in VA. Non-factory exhausts can get you in trouble, too, but they mostly hit ricers for that. (My 328 sets off car alarms in the underground parking garage.) And keep your eyes open -- these roads have already shredded three of my tires in less than two years. Wilson Bridge on 95 is under construction -- guaranteed trouble any time, day or night. (That's the southern part of the "beltway" loop, so if your map has you divert onto 295/495 or so across the northern part of the loop, that's a better path.) The Springfield Interchange is still under construction. (Avoiding the beltway completely would be bettery yet, if you're not stopping in DC.) Come to think of it, when I drove down from Boston a year and a half ago, 95 was pretty much under construction the whole way.
Oh yeah baby! Sounds terrific... see ya in a few days. (You have my cellular number, so if you need any spares delivered to the picnic, just call from the road)
Thanks for the info. Given your advisement of the conditions along I-95, and the recommendation of Daniel P., we are going to take 301 from just outside Wilmington, thru Annapolis, and down to Richmond.
Drove 301 about a month ago from Southern Md to Richmond. It is an older divided hwy but good surface. Better drive than 495, Wilson Bridge, etc. After Waldorf Md, traffic is not very heavy, especially after crossing the Potomic River Bridge. Steve

okay if you are taking a laptop, get ahold of daniel aka jack russel racing and get a copy of the WSM. it'll be worth its wieght in gold and then some when you're in the middle of nowhere. on my first long trip of 500+miles i packed the trunk with an aluminum racing jack from sears and a bag-o-tools. cams in handy when i needed to swap out the starter 600miles from home. the backs seats offer more than enough space for luggage. oh and the A/C at best takes the edge off, the greenhouse of glass and extra room in back over the 308 doesn't help. otherwise i roll down the windows and open the sunroof if its not to hot. some tips you may or may not know... for resting, the passenger can pull the seat forward and recline the seatback far enough to get some shuteye, another great advantage over the 308. door locking, DO NOT depress the front tab to lock the door when the door is open, doing so will break things esp. if you try and shut the door. the auto locking feature may or may not be working. if it is it only activates from the drivers door. otherwise you run around the car like i do and lock the door manually. to open the door you pull up on the larger latch and push the door open. takes some practice and you swear you're going to break something. parking brake is vette style, pull up to lock and just put the handle back down without pushing in the button. to release pullup on handle depress button and hold in while putting handle down. if i think of anything else i'll let you know.
Sounds great. I'll see how many of the Bama crowd that I can round up for your blast on I-20 from Atlanta to Shreveport.
We are taking my laptop with a GPS receiver and a few hours of Simpson's episodes to keep our sanity. Thanks to everyone it looks like we are not going to be more than 3 hours away from shelter
I''m on the phone with Manny and he's never seen Smokey and the Bandit! Looks like we need to rent it for him
Guys: I do so wish that I could join in the procession as you wind your way home. But alas, my Rachel is on Kevorks hoist getting all the necessary goodies that will set me free for a damn long time (FKN water pump!!). Will you do a photo expose' of the trip home? That would be great fun Cheers, Hank

sounds like a great trip, enjoy the ride. Take lots of pictures and post them. Remember the first rule of italian driving: "whats behind you is not important."
