AHEM!! CARBON! You show your best manners to these guys!! And sure, you can call tonight, just make it before 11:00 PM MY TIME!! If I'm conscious, I'll answer. Just 'cause they have to behave, doesn't mean you do! And give 'em a FML hat or shirt, you cheap bastard. Dave
Manny and Dave caught up with me on I-85 as I was heading from Greensboro to Charlotte. We pulled over in Salisbury - the guys and the Mondial are doing just fine. A stop at Starbucks for some sugar and caffeine and they are heading towards Atlanta. Good to meet you. Drive safe. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's sort of sad really, but I'm in Memphis for a soccer tournament. I got some internet time at the hotel computer and the first thing I did was check this thread to see how it's going. Enjoy yourselves Manny and Dave, it will be over before you know it. LOOK for fun roads on the map, anything other than interstate. You'll be glad you did.
I left Carbon and Dave do their thing at the Carrabas bar. I headed to the room to get some shut eye but could not resist... Got my fat ass downstairs and got the windows (inside and out) cleaned. Fixed some rubber on the door that was letting air leak inside. It was making an annoying wind noise. Then tackled a loose door panel, the fact that it is missing all but one screw might have something to do with it. Picked our trash from the inside and rearranged the stuff in the trunk. I used some tools from the care package that Dave gave us in PA NOW I am getting to sleep... Another long drive tomorrow... Another night, a few hours and we'll be in Texas!
LOL! I just rolled in from hanging with Carb.... this made me LOL. Manny is snoring, good thing I brought ear plugs. Here is the writeup that I typed in the car before we got to Atlanta. Its been a long day, over 4 hours to get to Durham, with only one stop on that leg for gas, but since Durham, stopped keeping track of time. We stopped several times to stretch, buy water, get gas, buy sunscreen, buy water, etc. Lunch with the NC FCA crew was great. A perfect place to stop for lunch. It was a real treat to spend 30 or 40 miles on the road with Tesseract and his 288 GTO bodied 308. It was totally unplanned but when we met on the road it was natural to run together for a while, and of course we stopped and had a visit as he was getting off the road. We took some great pics, well post later. Speedo is acting up so we have no idea how fast we are going. Well, since we have GPS, we have some idea. 5000 RPM = GPS indicated 114.mph Weve been lucky, no tickets. We behaved in Virginia, and through most of NC, but all through SC was wide onpen with no fuzz. We finally located the lever on the AC and moved it to the blue side, which helped a little with not as much heat coming from under the dash. This evenings leg has been pretty comfy. We passed a beautiful building under construction in Greenville SC, and we smiled when we noticed the sign Future home of Hubbell Lighting"
Congratulations on your purchase, My wife and I have just done a 4 day driving holiday in the central highlands of NSW Australia in our 1982 Mondial QV with the Ferrari club. Our Mondial performed outstandingly. Have fun, its a great car. Satdiver
Sounds great Manny & Dave. We'll see ya when you get here, back home sweet home to North Texas.. Stay safe guys.
I don't recall any problems with the speedo. Anyway my obsevations were approximately: 3300 rpm = 65 4000 rpt = 85 extapolating 4700 would seem to be about 105 and your obseved 5000 = 114 makes sense. Happy motoring!
Manny. Nothing like trial by fire, eh? These little tests are good for you. Good thing you have some skills. Now, on an unrelated note, please return your Fchat t-shirt. Clearly, you need the XXL. You are a TWO EX EL for sure. I had to guess when I brought them, but we have your size in stock!!! No need to squeeze all 6'2" of you into that tee. Hey how was that visit with Carbon? Quite the experience, eh? Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login
They left Birmingham about 2:00 after a tour of the Barber Museum and some lunch. All looks good for the leg to Shreveport - All the Bama guys enjoyed the visit. Photos to follow.
Manny and Dave are on I-20 in Alabama headed for Mississippi/Louisiana. We gave them a **warm** welcome here in 'Bama at the Barber Motorsports Track/Museum. They had a spark plug wire pop off, discovered after most of the entire Alabama crew looked at the tailpipes and said in near unison "You're running a bit rich!" Just kidding. You can hear them drive up long before you see them. Little bit of a tranny or bearing whine up close, probably needs a bit of gear oil. Car looks good with those Ronals, interestingly enough...though the non-OEM shield is mmm, well, it's interesting, too. Dave decided that he needed to pick up a Dino here in Bama. ...And we actually found a vehicle older than Manny's "new" Mondial! More pics of their Barber Track/Museum experience are over on the Great Mondial Roadtrip - Sunday in Bama thread in the SouthEast section, for those interested. "Oh, I love your new phone," says the hot babe at the bar. "It would look a lot better with your number in it," says NNO...
Dave, Buddy! Must be all that CO! LOL Good luck fellows, sounds like you got plenty of support! That Barber museum is awesome. -Peter (Team Moondog founding member)
Look at the pix. FD has a sunburned right arm (Been mostly on the passenger side??) and Manny is showing an obvious left arm watch/burn line. (Driver's side arm hangin' out the window?) Oh, and FD, have you gotten ANY SLEEP?? This pic says, NO! DM Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, they left Newton, MS around 5:15. It was good to meet them and talk for a little while. They still have about 280 miles to go today, so it looks like they should be in Shreveport around 9:30 tonight if they don't stop for a lengthy dinner. Might be hitting a little rain too. That should help cool things off some since it is hot down here now. Image Unavailable, Please Login
