    I might be interested (CS)

I'd like to know how the film reacts with existing mini-chips before I make a decision.

Depending on the size of the chip- If you have a rock chip that has begun to spider crack, or that you suspect is bad enough to start, I would highly recommend having the chip professionally filled to prevent it from spidering prior to having the windshield skin installed to ensure that its being applied to a smooth even surface.

    Nick,

If I'm not mistaken, Premier (up here in the Bay Area) offered a windsheild film a while back, but they stopped selling the product b/c it didn't perform well. Do you have any real-world, long-term usage experience with this product?

Conceptually, it's a great idea... I'd just want to know a little more about how it performs over time.

    Thanks,
    Frank

Great idea FBB for the plastic windshield you have.....I had researched this product and it appears to have some long term testing....it has been in euro for awhile and is now in the US(I believe Nick can verify more on this)......the only thing that may hold a big spender like you from a purchase is the price...lol

Exactly...me and el cheapo ernie go for http://www.pro-tint.com/racing_tearoffs.htm works great does not scratch. Why can't they just do that with lexan from the start? Anway what is the difference between my $60 protint tearoff and the "New windshield skin" for $800? The Pro-tint thickness is the same and it is clear polycarb. There must be something else to this new technology. I have never used protint on glass so I don't know if it can stop rocks like "New windshield skin".

I've researched this product for some time as a possible add-on service at our shop to the paint protection film and have spoken to Sammy @ Premier about it. The bottom line is no matter how good the manufacturer propaganda is there is no substitute for real life usage. I'm in NY so it will definitely be a true test. I'm putting it on my M5 this week.

I believe there are two different and very distinct uses for the film; street and track use. On a track car it's a no brainer as I have seen it work on GT3's that were pretty much exclusively used on the track. The film was replaced every season.

The difference???? let me see here.......my calculator says about $740...lol

You surely don't won't to use this if you're an off-road racer like plugzit..lol

Tear-offs are the best for track cars.

Wonder if you can still use Rain-X on this material or if it is an inherent property already built in. At Lemans 24hr we never had to run the wipers until the pace car came out...lol

Well check out my protint source. Put 1/2 protint on and 1/2 new windshield thingy and see what happens. I don't have wipers they add weight so I don' tknow what wipers will do. but with tear offs we don't car because we just tear them off as needed The film goes on like window tint

Oh and if the new windshiled fim really works like thier video wow! New windscreens are getting more expensive every day. If thier stuff works even 1/2 as good as the video...Wow!

Nick and Rich showed me a sample of this film and actually performed a test for me with a spring loaded center point chisel on a sample piece of tempered glass. The untreated area cracked and spidered exactly like it would from a rock chip. The treated piece did nothing except create a miniscule hole where the chisel was. It was no bigger than a pin point and would probably not be visible unless you really looked for it. They then removed the film and the same miniscule hole was on the glass. Again ... it was so tiny and probably smaller than most small tiny chips on your windshield now. My only concern was the clarity of the film upon application. I didn't want to see air bubbles or any kind of bluriness when looking through my windshield. They assured me that the view through the windshield would be no different than normal. Seems like money well spent in lieu of replacing a Ferrari windshield! :)

Windshield wiper use is totally fine with the windshield skin. It will not cause any damage to it

Premiere did, and from the links that some people have provided, it seems that the major differences are the fit. The windshield skin comes pre-cut and contoured for the ferrari windshield. There is no cutting or trimming involved during the installation process at all. Through demonstrations with the product, putting more stress on it than most daily use would, there was no damage to the actual windshield when using a slingshot to fire ball bearings at a protected windshield. We also have a spring loaded centerpunch tool and pieces of tempered glass that when used without the windshield skin on the glass, completely spider web and crack the glass. However, with the protection, as Jeffrey has said, there is virtually no visible damage to the glass at all. That would be an extreme case for an actual large rock impact. The effects of pitting and long term wearing effects on a windshield are also completely eliminated by having it covered as well as shielding the interior of the car from harmful UV rays that can discolor Suede dashs in 360CS's as well as put added wear on other interior components.

We also have updated pricing on these windshield skins as of late for those interested, it is as follows-

    F360 Modena, Spyder, Stradale- $599
    F430 Coupe, Spyder- $599
    Prices INCLUDE installation.

you guys use your windshield wipers on fERRARIS? yikes,,,, I have never turned them on on ANY exotic car.... its the worst thing you can do to a car and they are useless anyway.... RainX it and drive away... in fact removing the wipers makes any exotic so much more sleek.

I had the film and noticed distortion (i.e., colored bars) when looking through the windshield with polarized sunglasses. You may want to check that. It may or may not bother you.
