[ATTACH] This is mine 355
I know this exact car quite good and it's one of the best cared f355 spider i've ever seen. Wish you all the best with this beauty. Cheers from south Germany Mike
Most people call them bbs classic style or mesh style wheels. tomato vs tomato Is similar to the stype you saw on 70's trans am (smokey and the bandit) and even earlier. It's a a design based on actual spoked rims (cross hatched). Their heyday except in racing was in the late 80's to late 90's. My car is a mid 90's so it's a bit period eventhough these particular rims weren't available until the late 90's (I believe). Black and gold is pretty cliche but it is so for a reason. The gold is close-ish to the tan interior. My first choice was white challenge rims but it was pretty difficult to get them and to be in showroom condition.
I always thought the 355 spider was suited to "Daytona-esque" basket wheels. I contacted Borrani a few years ago to see if they could hook me up with a set of 18"s, but they said they couldn't do a set to work with the 355. Here's a mock-up I did at the time. I realize not all wheels on all cars suit everyone's tastes. But the good thing with wheels is they are a fully reversible mod. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jeffrey, if you're going with the same 18" rim diameter, at lease please lower the car. If you get 18" rims and not lower the car if will look ridicules. Only stock wheels can pull that of, anything else will definitely look wrong and probably look riced up. I'd say go for 19" they look perfectly ok. 20" will look like a hotwheels car. If still going with 18" at least go with the more aggressive offsets and be flush. Please don't get the factory offsets. Factory offsets usually look like that pic below lol... looks like a boat. I see lots of people on the road who does that. Definitely says they didn't know what they were doing. No taste what so ever. Image Unavailable, Please Login wheels-of-fortune
As for the "hot wheels" car comment My 19s are the same diameter as my 18s when you include the tire. You're just replacing 1/2 of rubber with 1/2 of metal per side wall
yeah that's how it should be. Staying with the same overall wheel diameter or the speedo will get thrown off.
Finally, I have narrowed down my choices to one. Agonizing between a few, but nailed it down tonight... I'll keep ya guessing (and the thread alive). It's not the one I posted earlier. Anyways now that wheel choice is done, I must go through another tortuous decision on color and finish. F355 is red and interior is black leather & grey Alcantara with trim bits of carbon fiber scattered around. Of the 20 colors offered by the manufacturer, 5 look good to me of the pictures I've seen on various cars in different colors and sunlight. Colors are Natural Aluminum, Gun Metal Grey, Brushed Black, Bronze and Gold. Besides the color, there is the option of a matte finish with the Gun Metal and Bronze. I think I may rule out Bronze because it looks different in different lighting, from a rich luster with nice depth in gloss but in some lighting it looks brown and really dead. I'm kind of leaning to the Natural in gloss, the Gun Metal in matte, brushed Black in gloss and Gold. It's going to be a long couple of weeks to nail this thing down..... Wife thinks I'm nuts... then I ask her if she only had to keep one pair of shoes, then she understands. JD
some eye candy for your consumption. took awhile to find pics of red Ferraris (alas no F355 found) with the wheel I am choosing. Here are the top 4 (still won't tell you which one). Although th car is red, the final color and finish choice hasn't been made. The finalists here I all like, but they say beauty is in the eye etc..... here we have A,B,C & D. ENJOY! For the 355 the third one. 34x and 35x look best with thicker spokes, at least in my eyes. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
One of them is modular and the center and outer can be had in a number of different colors and finishes..mix and match as well as natural aluminum. The one on the 488 is monoblock and can be had only in a single color/finish. JD
well the monoblock is going to be a cheaper option. I guess we'll see how those will look in 18" and with the factory height. Do you know the offsets and the specs of the wheels yet?
NEEZ wheels can also be custom ordered with centerlocks if one knows what he's doing . REAL racing wheels. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just found a pic of the (unfortunately) discontinued HRE 845R. I like. It's modular, but BC Forged has a remarkable look-a-like in their monobloc RS45. Image Unavailable, Please Login Also the RT50 looks a bit beefier, like a cross between the RS45 and a Challenge
Definitely think the car needs wider spokes. Challenge are too wide imho. Those looks great and a slight concave would set them off. Those are my current favorite but I want 7.5 in front to maintain 215 tire since the 48 front lip is way lower than 355. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
