Yep correct…. I’ve been a track guy since 2005.. proper tech inspections signed off my shop/mechanic are what we’ve always done.

"Before you use your vehicle on a track, consult with your Mclaren retailer. Mclaren recommends that your vehicle is inspected before and after track use."

    My dealer confirmed this.

I can give my experience; knowledge, research, real life application but to try to convince the dude who supposedly has a 458 and doesn't track whose car is out of warranty is a bit of wastage of my time...

It's a surprise to many people that virtually all cars that you see on track tests do not have warranty coverage if they do the same thing.

Ferrari/lambo/porsche warranty book is very gray with regards to warranty. They can basically deny coverage at their whim. Mclaren is the only one that is black and white.

Here's an excerpt from Porsche warranty book regarding exclusions:

Abuse, accident, acts of God, competition, racing, track use, or other
    events.
Note 1: Components and/or parts that fail during racing or driving events
(including Porsche sponsored events) may not be covered by the new car
    Limited Warranty.
Note 2: You should also be aware that PCNA may deny you warranty
coverage if your vehicle or a part has failed due to abuse, neglect, improper
    maintenance or unapproved modifications.

The Mclaren warranty for track use is definitive. So Ferrari cognitive dissonance avoider is concocting illusions in his in obsessive vain effort to disparage Mclaren.

But Mclaren bad, Ferrari good. Isn’t that enough facts to carry the day? Lol. I’m amazed that he is complaining that you need a pre/post inspection for the car to be covered under warranty. You’re correct, it’s definitive and also a smart move to have the professionals look at the car before you put your life, and others at risk on a race track.

    Oh come on!

There is liability and reliability. Not the same.

No question that none of the companies will be liable for anything that happens on a track under any circumstances.

‘However how many of you expect to have something break when you track the car? None.

And if something breaks don’t you expect them to cover it? All.

And how many folks have experienced an issue on a track that WASN’T covered by a warranty? That is the issue.

I once had a Cali at Laguna seca that by the end had what sounded like a bad rear wheel bearing. Told the local dealer what happened. Fixed, no questions.

    Just tracking, no racing.

All of these cars should not break doing a track day. So how many folks have had an issue not get rectified by the dealer?

Further, for our Mclaren friends, how many of you adhere to the Macca requirements of having an inspection before and after??

Driving in circles at moderate speeds and braking like you probably did won't yield too many problems but if you really push there are all kinds of things that can break. Your dealer may or may not cover you depending on the circumstances or how they see things. With McLaren there is no issue as long as you get a pre and post inspection. Nothing else to really discuss.

McLaren’s track policy is definitive and clearly specified. Abide by the dealer pre and post inspection, the warranty is unaffected. Period.

    Hooey.

If all of you track your cars and you don’t follow macca’s or porsche’s or Ferrari guidelines and none you have been denied coverage then ALL of this is moot.

I like all of these marques but you are all arguing nothing.

Or do you think that any of these names can piss off bunches of their best customers doing what they, themselves highlight about their cars?

Exactly. My front bushings were changed under warranty. The 458, 488 and F8 burn the front rubber bushings with the heat from the brakes. My dealer agreed as they knew I bought the car to track and I specifically asked whether or not to suspect such issues. I was told no, so fkr them not to cover it would mean going back on their word. I'm sure other dealers would do the same, and I'm sure some would go out of their way to stick you with every bill they can.

Best thing to do is to be up-front about your intentions with the car before you buy. That way things are straight forward later on.

It really is a dealer to dealer thing. When I bought my TTS, the GM of the dealer goes, “let me know when you want to chip it and put an exhaust on it”. That’s something I won’t do likely but pretty wild stuff coming from the dealer itself.

You guys are using anectodal evidence of how warranty and tracking, deal, marque treat things.

When push comes to shove; what is in the owner's manual rules everything.

Manufactures pay the warranty bills to the dealer and they do care if the car is being used in the parameters given in the legal documents.

I track quite often; I am plugged in with many people who do track... I am quite aware of many instances where warranty wasn't honored for on track incidents or damage due to excessive tracking.

It's all grey with all the marques (on purpose), except for Mclaren.

    It's fun until it's not.

Thats hilarious.... I am with ya on your decision for sure. When I have had Porsche dealers tell me things like that I tell them sure and to write up a warranty for 4 years that you the dealership will cover fully anything that goes wrong with the car. That pretty much shuts them up.

1 thing I will say about my local Ferrari dealer is they are very realistic and matter of fact about modding a Ferrari and how it will effect warranty in a not very positive way.

For what it is worth, Ferrari of North America's towing service will not pick up a Ferrari that needs a tow from a race track. (even from a Ferrari sponsored event) No surprise, tracking may impact the warranty as well.

So the other day, I dropped my new iPAD (cracked screen), but since I also bought the AppleCare package (e.g., insurance), brought it back for a replacement. I paid $129 for the coverage, which reads as follows:

Get up to 2 incidents of accidental damage protection every 12 months1........******* sold it to me as 'accidental damage protection', and I hadn't bothered to notice the little red "1" points to "battery" and "pencil" failure.

They denied me a replacement and claimed AppleCare does not cover a cracked screen. WTF?

Cheaper warranty lesson than a car, but always read the fine print and get something in writing if unsure.

Haha, thought you were gonna say it would've been better spent on a lap dance.

I actually did lose one rushing through Phila airport one time, going through security. Knowing I would never get it back anyway, just for grins I reported it to Lost and Found. Eight months later I got an e-mail - they found it! I retrieved it but by that time the software didn't run a damn thing, including YouTube, lol.
