Speed is not important if you are in congested traffic on a daily basis. Owning a super car is only worthwhile if you drive it in a manner to take advantage of its intended purpose. While you may not track the car, there are a variety of venues where the car's stellar and compelling driving dynamics can be experienced. Simply treating it as a stationary object obviates much of its purpose.

But this is the norm on this forum. Nothing unusual. The overwhelming members on this forum are obviously Ferrari diehards. They will not and cannot wrap their minds around any other brand being a competitor or heaven forbid, superior. They twist themselves into pretzel logic to justify their blind devotion to the brand. There exists a minority of members, which includes me, you, Scrappy, Socal, GH, Josta and others who genuinely love cars and are open to owning any brand deemed worthy. And then there is another group who pretend to be impartial , and devoid of bias but are in reality, pure Ferrari devotees that have little interest in any car that does not have the prancing horse attached to it.

Disagree. I will rarely drive my car over 100mph. And here in Georgia due to speeding laws I will be very nervous to do so. My car will never see a track. What a car is capable of and its intended purpose can be different based on the intentions of who purchased it. My car certainly does not remain stationary and I will tell you I highly doubt anyone enjoys their super car as much as I do. It is more than worthwhile for me to own it and drive it as I choose. As I type this I can’t wait to drive it this weekend. 30mph or 80mph Twisty roads or straight the enjoyment is the same.

I owned 720s and PIsta. I track a lot. I hang around with people who track a lot. We don't quote fastestlaps. People are tracking them all the time and not updating fastestlaps (which is generally journalist lap times with factory cars).

PIsta/gt2rs with $3,500 tires (cup2r) are able to hang around with a 720s on $1,600 tires (goodyear 3r). People may try out the cup2r tires for the sake of trying them but then quickly realize that it isn't worth it in an HPDE environment and they go out fast. You'll rarely see pista/gt2rs on cup2r tires at track days. Randy Pobst with motortrend tried out gt2rs two more times at Laguna Seca (i was there both times in the garage next to him and he didn't break 1:33, whereas with motortrend and factory car he did 1:28 and change). Two of my friends beat his 720s time in their 720s at Laguna Seca.

720s easily gets faster laps then pista/gt2rs on equal rubber.

I have an F8. And I do enjoy it driving and sitting in my garage. Heck, I have a camera in my garage so I can remotely look at it when I’m at work. My car isn’t a garage queen.

If they didn’t at least have the same tires it’s a dumb comparison.

Few guys here have done Cup2R tires but find the regular Cup2 non r tires last longer and after a few track days are faster than the r. Couple of my track friends preferred the Dunlops on gt3rs though. My most fun tire and long lasting was when I was running Porsche 997 cars on 18” wheels with Nitto NT01

Agreed. Due to cost, longevity, etc., my friends with gt3rs prefer the dunlops and then cup2's.

Owned both, IMO he’s wrong. It’s very clear to me. The F8 is great but it’s no SF90. The SF is like a very fast Speciale. You can’t really feel the weight easily, it’s very well disguised and the drive is very sharp. Chris Harris complained that when you turn all the software off it behaves oddly. Nobody turns everything off with their £500k car around a mountain or fast B road. They just don’t. Chris must have been following an editorial line “we’re forced to accept electric but does it make a better sports car? No.” Except the answer is yes. With SF90, hybrid turbo is infinitely better than just turbo and we have a GT2 RS and a Pista.

But which comes first, chicken or egg? Did those people buy a Ferrari because they liked it or like a Ferrari because they bought it? It’s no different to your position really, except they are expressing their strongly held views on a Ferrari forum. They have simply adopted a certain view about what’s best for them, just like you. Your view happens to involve multiple brands and diminished brand loyalty, theirs is the reverse. Neither is wrong. For some people, buying one car like this is a long-held dream they can’t repeat, so ‘defending’ their purchase is only the same thing you have been doing with the 765. For others, they have the finance or desire to repeat buy. The vast majority of those have, like you, owned multiple brands. That doesn’t make them closed of mind if they then choose to avoid a brand they have already owned for one of what could be a hundred reasons. That is my case. I’ve decided to concentrate my new car buying on two brands I like unless something really interesting comes along elsewhere that I can’t resist or either of them stops with the good service I receive. One of those brands is not McLaren. I have had one in the past (in fact I bought a new McLaren before I bought a new Ferrari) so my mind is not closed, merely made up.

I’ve mentioned I’m currently away with a 675 spider-owning friend who has a Speciale and Pista, plus a GT3 RS, all owned from new. I asked him how many miles it had done now because he has used it on and off for many of our road trips. It has 16k miles. I asked if he wouldn’t swap for a 765 spider (since so many here have said how good the 765 is, including you, and I believe them). He told me that he had actually spoken to dealers (2) and asked for a price on his 675 to exchange and neither bothered even to ring him back! Used cars are very good news at the moment, which is doubly confusing, but either way that speaks volumes to someone like me who is in the trade. Rule number 1, don’t disrespect your own product.

He could sell his car privately but he’s a busy guy under a lot of business pressure currently, why should he? Ownership of the Mac has been far harder than ownership of Porsche and Ferrari. “Only room for one McLaren in my life” is his comment. He loves his 675 but it has been in the shop a lot.

There can be many reasons people avoid a particular product, I wouldn’t personally look to judge people as quickly. We all have our reasons; simply because a person likes to consider multiple brands doesn’t automatically make them enlightened and those who think differently not. That thinking is actually opposite sides of the same bias, not enlightened v unenenlightened.

Your comment that Harris is wrong in his assessment of the SF90 is based upon your opnion just as he was voicing his. Perhaps he is simply expressing that his priorities and preferences in what he desires in a super car simply does not comport with yours. You are right and he is wrong is a mighty immodest proclamation. You then further suggest that his evaluation of the SF90 was not fully forthright and tinged by ulterior motives designed to appease his editors. I suggest that a more dignified approach would be accepting Harris' review as his judgement which fundamentally differs from yours.
