This is an original Scuderia Ferrari Racing Participant Medal dated 1931 with Enzo Ferrari's name engraved on the back.

It is highly ornate with many interesting and detailed features. Depicted in detail are "Art Deco" renditions of a Scuderia Ferrari like Alfa Monza, Dirigible, Airplane, Bicycle, MotorCycle, old man "Dunlop" etc...

This medal was presented to Enzo Ferrari possibly at the Trento Hill Climb or similar event. (Anyone have a list of Enzo's last races that might help narrow down which race this medal is from ?) This was only the third year of the Scuderia Ferrari and one of the last years that Enzo Ferrari actually raced himself.

Very rare, extremely unique and quite special. I have had it for several years and curious if anyone knows more about it or about what race it might have been given to him at.

Here is a link for those interested further:

Thanks...email me a private note about your GTB...I used to have one and really liked it. Sold it and bought a 375MM. It was a worn out rat and in a million pieces so even though it was a killer important car...was not as much fun as my GTB...True story!

Next came the 56 Factory TR...now that was way better than the GTB...but thats another story...

    Cheers,

    Bill

Are you sure this medal is for a race vitory, rather than something presented to Ferrari by the tire compnay for the team's successes in 1931?

Not sure of anything... The darn thing was made, given and set aside before my dad was even born.

Could have been the company X-mass ornament for all I know...

Seriously...Dunlop was a major sponsor at the various races so it very likely could have been some sort of promotional / corporate gift but the pre-faciast French and Italians did not exactly see I to I so who knows.

I have all the SF Yearbooks from 29 through 35 so I will page through them over the weekend and see if their is anything there.

On a separate note...I showed it to my girlfreind and she had a pretty cool idea that I should clip it to the keys on my car for next years TDF, Le Mans and Monaco races...

I get a nice X-mass card from Pierro every year...maybe I should take it racing and send it back to him... Not much $ in that plan but probably a nice thing to do anyway.

    Cheers,

    Bill

I sure don't know exactly what that is, but I can certainly say it is flat out nifty & should be in a museum.

    Hi Bryan,

Thats the one...not such a "pure" car but what a cool history. Chassis number was 0652/MDTR. Now fitted back with a proper 2.0 TR engine. Had a type 168 V12 when I had it.

    Cheers,

    Bill

The dates 809 and 1931 are stamped on the medal, albeit in 2 different locations.

The gorgeous Silver medal is for driving to 2nd place on August 9, 1931, when Enzo drove a Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 MM in Tre Province.

For confirmation of date, this should suffice:

Oh, btw - this appears to have been Enzo the racecar driver's last turn of the wheel (not) in anger. In retrospect, he felt "My big fault was to spare the car in races, when you should mistreat it if necessary."

That medal is really something, definately a rare piece of Ferrari history that Mr.Ferrari had in his possession for a while, it even looks worn from carrying it in a pocket or something.

Can you tell us the history of how you ended up with it Bill?
