Sad news, one of the T6 vintage planes crashed at Culpeper airport.
Hoping the pilot and passenger recover fully from their injuries.

This is the airport where we've had a number of Ferrari Club events over the years.
They are wonderful people and let us do photo shoots with our cars and their warbirds.

2 Men Injured After Small Plane Crashes at Culpeper Regional Airport | NBC4 Washington

2 Men Injured After Small Plane Crashes at Culpeper Regional Airport.

Two men have been hospitalized after a small plane crashed Saturday afternoon at an airport in Culpeper County, Virginia, state police say.

About 1:40 p.m., the plane crashed at the Culpeper Regional Airport in Brandy Station, according to a spokesperson for Virginia State Police.

The single-engine 1949 North American T6G plane was attempting to land at the airport when it ran off the side of the runway and overturned, state police said.

Fifty-six-year-old Daniel Haug, of Culpeper, was flying the plane and 74-year-old John Reavis Jr. was riding as a passenger. Haug was taken to Culpeper Hospital and Reavis Jr. was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital, state police said. Their conditions are not known at this time.

Witnesses told News4 the crash happened during an event held by the Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, a group that hosts airshows throughout the region.
Photos show a small yellow plane upside down on a grassy area. Video from the witness showed a medevac helicopter at the scene.

State police and the FAA are investigating.

That'll buff right out. Seriously, with the high value of warbirds nowadays, I have little doubt that that bird will fly again.

that is not a high value warbird, but I think it looks pretty repairable.

    Speedy recovery.

At times, aviation can be less forgiving than other careers/sports.

T6 is a tough airplane. Sure to be fixed.

The Waco replica that went down in Lake Travis in July is up and flying again. Can't tell anything ever happened.

Sure it is... with a little paint, it's a Japanese Zero at the next air show. :)

I can see a new fin, new rudder, new canopy, new cowl, prop, engine overhaul, new landing gear, extensive damage to left wing and may have to be replaced if it was wracked,...and lots of money. Looks like a typical ground loop.

Getting tough to rent warbirds for movies. CGI is far less expensive.

You guys don't miss anything, do you?
The plane's owner is my friend. I've ridden with Dan dozens of times in that back seat. I'm a member of the Capital Wing and I was there when this happened. That said, I didn't see the landing. I was in the FBO in a meeting with several other Wing members. We heard the engine accelerate, then go silent and knew something wasn't right when we saw other Wing members run out of the CAF hangar. When we came out of the conference room, we saw the plane, pretty much like you see it in the news photo. We along with airport employees called 911 and grabbed fire extinguishers and ran for the plane.

Dan is physically ok and was released from the hospital that evening. The passenger, when last I heard on Sunday, was in the ICU. Needless to say, Dan is quite distraught, as are the rest of us.

Ron, if you'd like to contact me, once the dust settles from this accident, we'd love to have everyone come out for a Saturday of Warbirds and Ferraris.

Isn't it a T6 that hangs over the escalator at DAB.

    John,

It was a shock to see Culpeper Airport in the news like that.
I'm glad Dan is okay but it is tough news to hear the passenger is still in the ICU.

We really enjoyed getting together with you all in the past.
Your group puts on a fun bbq lunch and the hangar talk is great fun for us.
I'll check your calendar and see if there is a date that works for us this year to come by and visit again.

    - Ron

I agree and it helps many owners with the costs of keeping them going but the cost factor is not ever going to get better. CGI will continue to get better and less expensive and the real thing is going to continue to get more expensive. Too bad but the use of the real thing is headed the way of the dinosaur.

Sounds good. We are planning to have a Wine and Wings or Brew and Birds so perhaps that can be coordinated to occur at the same time. We may be able to round up a few additional warbirds to be there and for a donation, rides in our L-5 and/or TBM.

I am a huge WWII buff... and WWII airplanes are the coolest thing ever made... However... I skip the movies that don't bother to use real airplanes. I understand that there has to be some cgi... but the complete made up films with ZERO airplanes... Im out. Give me the wrong plane painted like an enemy plane... I just want to see an actual thing do something. Ill allow that little inaccuracy (which is huge) but I want to see a real airplane do something. People need to see them fly not a computer version of it.

Honestly... if you watch top gun... its amazing footage absolutely amazing footage!

Anyways back on topic. Hopefully both passengers are feeling well

I agree but 99+% of the movie going public does not.
