Absolutely spectacular colour combination, but for me the Zagato body on the 8v is unsurpassed. We are dealing with various degrees of excellence though! Thanks for posting.. Mark.
That is just amazingly beautful. Vignale was one of a ton of coachbuilders who proliferated buidling bodies for Fiat Topolinos. This was in the days when you bought your chassis at one place, then took it to the coachbuilder and he built it out like you wanted it, and Vignale were reknowned for beautiful flowing lines and attention to detail. Di Thomaso bought them in the late 60's to become the "research and design" department of Di Thomaso, but Di Thomaso went into government receivership in 1974 and that was that. Truly a shame too. Vignale never competed with Pininfarina in size, but they did alot of work for Ferrari, and their designs are now legendary. I think it's interesting that they could take an entry level Fiat and make it look just about as classy as the mcuh more expensive and exclusive Ferraris. That's truly classic design. Agree the colours are just superb, the Zagato 8v is stunning but after seeing the Vignale car at Essen last month I have to say photographs just do not do the car justice. It is a work of art. Thanks for the link, love all the Vignale cars.
I hate to make a correction to your story, however I worked for DeTomaso Industries through Maserati in the early eighties. Vignale went into receivership in 74 not DeTomaso. DeTomaso bought and used the Vignale facility to build the bodies and interiors for the Pantera. Sadly Alfredo Vignale died three days after the sale in car crash.
...and Vignale didn't proliferate building bodies for Fiat Topolinos. Sorry, where you read this b......t ?
