As many of you know, there were three or four design studies done for the ORIGINAL 1957 3500 GT. Two designs done by Touring officially named by Maserati as the 3500 GT/T. Three done by Alamano, offically named by Maserati the 3500 GT/A And one by Zagato, known as the 3500 GT/Z Roughly 1950 cars were built from 1957 to 1965 by Touring. Three, maybe four cars were built by Alamano in 1957 and 1958. And sadly (for me at least) the 3500 GT/Z or Zagato was never built. But a brochure was issued for it in June/July of 1957. Does anyone have in their archives any design studies or sketches/drawings of the 3500 GT/Z - Zagato? I would be very interested in seeing a different rendering than the 1957 brochure. Ciao and best! ~Trev
Interestingly this design -more or less- was realised as an A6G 2000 Zagato (#2155) and not as a 3500GT. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Boudewijn and Walter, thank you for posting the rendering. That is the known image for the 3500 GT/Z, I'm looking for others. Zagato was helpful but not forthcomming as of yet. The A6G Zagato is indeed similar, but absolutely not the same. The A6G has a a different front grill shape, slope and design. The 3500 GT/Z has a nose/grill more like the A6GCS Pininfarina, and the headlight design and therefore the front fenders/wings are different. Although similar, not the same. Just pointing it out for reference. Not to argue. ~Trev
For sure the original (#2155) is not the same as on the rendering. But major ideas of the drawing went into the car. #2155 had a very (!!) hard life and this was the 2nd of 3 period modification it got until it was restored to its 2nd version (see my upcoming book about the A6G 2000 Zagato). No 3500GT ever had received any design idea from the rendering. Zagato was helpful but not forthcomming as of yet??? This doesn`t wonder me at all....
Yep! No 3500 was built by Zagato. Do you know when/date the final Zagato version of #2155 was completed? Before July 1957?
I saw #2155 at the Mar-a-Lago show last Sunday. Fabulous car! This is a low key show with spectacular cars. Ivan

Well, the car was restored in Italy for its 1st US-owner from Texas. 4 or 5 years later -without much usage!- the car was sold to its next owner from California. He commissioned a new resto by Paul Russell. IMO this 2nd resto was not necessary....
This is the car in its current condition. The owner is from Mexico, not California. I believe he keeps the car in Texas. For some reason my digital camera captured the door color as slightly different. I did not notice this looking at the car, but cameras are much better of picking up slight color differences. Fantastic car! Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fascinating to see all the ripples along the side of the car in period photos, that have been removed in subsequent restoration. Thanks for posting. Don
