Who knows the story on this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-1950s-FERRARI-196S-RACE-CAR-ITALIAN-RECREATION-/140407530818 eBay verbage: The beautiful Ferrari 196S was the first Ferrari sports car to receive the new Dino designed V-6 engine. This 196S recreation was built in Italy and imported approximately 8 years ago and is registered "1957 Ferrari." It's features include an alloy body, tubular frame, 2.0 Ferrari Dino V-6 motor with twin plug heads, velocity stacks, perspex carburator hood bubble, 4 speed gearbox with reverse lockout gate, side pipes, disc brakes, 15 inch Borrani wire wheels, Dunlop 5.00 L racing tires, correct periodstyle dash with Veglia gauges, covered headlights, side vents front and rear, head faring, riveted alloy fuel tank, etc. The car has had a recent carbs rebuild and a light service from sitting a couple of years. With real Ferrari 196S values over $2.0 million US, and most Ferrari replicas selling for several hundred thousand dollars, this car is a true bargain, and a blast to drive! not sure what to say. my only comment is the 911 rs replica (i assume it s a replica) looks like a car i would prefer driving.
I can just hear my wife complaining about the battery tray in the area of her legs. And me trying to tell her that it adds to the period feel. What fun!
Holy crap!!! Is this the same car: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50538&highlight=196s Image Unavailable, Please Login
Front tire is mounted backward...directional tire pumping water into the center of the tread! Looks like a good time.
Just received an email from the current seller and he said it was bought out of Georgia a couple of years back. Looks like it could very well be the same car.
Please tell me there are not more than 1 of these abominations or I might lose the will to live. There is not a single detail that I can see that has anything to do with a 196S. If you make a replica, should you not be replicating? Onno
It looks like the car I saw at Oceanside (I won't say where - to protect the innocent) a few months back. Now I've got a strong stomach and an optimistic outlook but it really was a shocker. On the other hand it does have an alloy body and a Dino engine, so I suppose I can see someone going for it. The bidding has reached $79000 and it's selling so maybe it will be fun for someone who wants to put in a lot of work and make themselves a fun special...
I think it went for $100,100. I would consider that all the money. I hope the new owner enjoys it. It is faster at this point than a DIY.
I am, candidly, shocked at this price, but it is an alloy bodied car. I imagine an awesome detail would do this Dino wonders. I do have a 196 replica just to disclose. I would love to see what this car cleans up like and see if some of it's shortcomings can be made up for. I will stand by what I have said abouth replica, and this will still hold true for this one, the sensation driving down the road in something like this is an unbelievable amount of fun!!!
