I know that car well, everything the owner said was basically correct. It has a full aluminum body... everthing tub, bonnet, doors etc. It is a very nice car, it is definately not a standard E-type. Cheers Jim
i agree.based on the owner alone, i suspect the car was well researched before he added it to his collection. i am certain that is no run of the mill e-type. that said, calling a series 1 or even a series 2 run of the mill seems so, so wrong! very nice car there black jag...but please close the door fully before photoing. it drives me crazy.
Oh Ok i know on another forum which is very british based that the car is not regarded as a semi factory lWT. Very nice car,but I have never seen any write ups on that car till recent times.
there you go ps i also run alloy doors, boot, bonnet. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
If you read the RM auctions write up,all of the mods done to the car could be either done at the factory or at a dealership.Several cars of similar specs raced in Australia. 9.1 pistons, factory option,in fact standard on UK cars. brakes, thicker discs of a MK10 saloon. Offset wire wheels, factory option as per there race tune handbook. close ratio gearbox, you could order them. There is a story that Stirling Moss was going to race this car at the '64 Le mans, why would he make a comeback in a uncompetive car? Its very nice car but nothing special as per works car. Reading between the lines most of the work on the car was done in the last decade. If the factory had intended that car as a semi works car,it would have been fitted with alloy panels from new, alloy D/type wheels,ZF gearbox and either injection or Weber carbs.
thank you for posting the pictures. your car is FANTASTIC!!!!!! I find the series 1 e-type to be one of the 4 most sexy sportscars of all time. in no particular order: 1) series 1 e-type 2) miura 3) 246 dino 4) tipo 33 stradale!!!!!!!!!! pcb
BlackJag, you have a very nice car. On the semi lightweight, I agree it is not a works car and it will always be a controversial car. My understanding is the car and the alloy bodywork including tub were purchased in period but not put together until much later. To me it is more than a replica but in no way a real lightweight. Cheers Jim
Good point, thankyou for your comments re my car. RM auctions in there write up were wrong, there were 2 additional semi LWT cars built for the factory running alloy panels ect,but non injected motors. One car was sold to Sir Hugh Roper? this is not one of them. regards Rob B
I'm going from a conversation from about 5 years ago. I thought the panels were period but I would not bet my paycheck on it. If they are from RS panels, I can understand your first comments. The car is well done, but it sounds like you have a number of cars in your area that are similar. Cheers Jim
That guy is Bruce Meyer - a true car enthusiast with an impressive collection and a cool guy to boot. You can be sure that he's done his homework.
Don't know but he'll be up in Monterey next week if anyone here wants to ask him. I would but I'm staying home this year.
I understand that Stirling Moss was going to race that car at le mans in 1964! Funny how Jaguar would build a lightweght car in LHD form.
Look at the wheels, there not correct Dunlop wheels and the colour is a non Jaguar period colour. Where is the fuel injected/dry sump motor. Its a very nice car but not a ex factory built lightweight (semi) Non of my Jaguar E-type friends know of the car and its early history.
