Notice that the two headlight trim rings are of different sizes? Why present a car that way?

 

The grille seems to droop toward the driver's side as well.

 

Strange that. Makes one wonder if it has been through major front rebuild at some point.

The two front corners definitely don't match. Note also the different shapes of the headlamp scallops as best seen comparing photos 60 and 61.

 

If important, why not just ask the consignor/seller to provide them ?

 

I think if they wanted to provide that they would have. When you have a less than perfect car for sale on BAT it's easier to make top dollar by letting people just bid on what they see. (or don't see)

 

Some sellers when asked a direct question about a specific issue often deflect or fail to respond.

 

I love how, when asked about shoddy paintwork on the rear, this seller replied "typical Ferrari micro fissures", as if that was a thing.

 

Having had bought & sold 1000+* vehicles in past 45+ years, I fully understand that, but what I don’t is that if someone, lets say OP, is concerned about any issues on the subject they’re perhaps looking to acquire, why not ask directly and if satisfactory disclosure is not provided, either bid/offer accordingly or just move on.
Asking advise or opinions from random strangers in some forum isn’t likely going to be helpful either.

Several strangers here aren't that random, but of course when it comes to free advice you are highly dependent on others' honesty and generosity....

Like in any other forums, there often are "not that random" regular contributor sharing advise or expressing opinions, while not having any actual, first-hand, i.e. meaningful experience with a specific subject or others like it.
OTOH, like you noted with "free advice" and most other things in life, one gets what one is paying for.

 

Apparently, young folks have what they call a body count. This car is almost 60 years old. Can you imagine the number of people who have worked on this car over all these years? I'm not defending the seller. But if you want a #2+ car, you're going to have to pay big bucks. When I brought my GTC almost 20 years ago, I put it up on a lift and was able to see all kinds of dings. The greatest concern was the radiator looked like it had bottomed out. There were other stories here and there, but I brought the car anyway. Of course, I only paid $90k, but that was a lot of dough for me!

That said, I would never buy an old car on the Internet.

What I meant is that if you are paying attention, reading the right posts by the right people will help rather than hinder.

 

I hear/read you and generally tend to pay attention, but so far, other than posts #2 & #3, both which OP dismissed, or my suggestion in post #14, I don't see any replies directly addressing his initial inquiry of "Does anyone know the history of this car?".

So which "right posts by right people" are you referring to in this case/thread ?

I get that you only tend to pay attention and are only mildly curious…but…

The folks using their eyes to see what is likely poorly repaired crash damage actually ARE contributing and answering the initial question. Are they publishing a formal report? No. Are they making salient observations directly related to an issue not addressed in “the history”…? Yes.

This entire thread will become a part of the history of the car. The seller might not appreciate it, but a prospective buyer would probably prefer to figure out this issue, rather than pretend it doesn’t exist.

The “history” of a relatively mundane #3 condition production car is often an iterative process.

In other words…would you prefer, “nope, nothing in my history files” over relevant observations that highlight the lack of (or, even worse, the hiding of) the actual events…?
