    I've recently assisted in the sale of this 1970 double headlight Mangusta and was asked about the location of the VIN plate or a tube where the VIN may be etched.

    If it's not in front boot, door jamb I'm at a loss without
    having the car right in front of me.

    Any direction appreciated.

    Someone will chime in with the straight info, but for now, here is what it says in the "Standard Catalog of Imported Cars":

    ID Data: Serial number (for 1969) is on a small identification strip attached to right side member of engine subrame; (1970) on right rear chassis frame, to rear of engine; (1971) on a small plate attached to the right-hand engine support frame.

    On the right side of the frame. Just ahead of the right rear shock absorber mount, there is a brace that slopes down from the top shock bolt down forward to the frame rail that runs under the header, there is a flat surface, biased toward the front of the car.

    The serial number will be stamped on this surface. 8MAXXX.
