    History

Ford kicked off their future SUV success with the first-gen Bronco that launched in 1966 as an off-roader designed to compete with Jeeps and Scouts. It ran for 30 years in various forms, but initial models like the 1970 model up for auction today were simple, compact 4x4s with robust Dana components and hearty V8 options. As Ford put it, “That’s power for the big jobs, and the big jaunts…to where the fun is and the roads aren’t.”

Today, the Bronco is back in modern form and it’s a hit, making the original version exceptionally desirable. From untouched originals to off-the-wall custom builds, vintage Broncos are as exciting as ever. However, the particular model up for auction today will make you do a double take. It’s new and vintage all in the same breath, with original components that have received a full makeover and replacement bits that maintain the factory design without 50 years of wear and tear.

    Exterior
The TDK Bronco chassis – photos of which are shown in the gallery – was sent to Rust Belt Broncos in Ohio where they mounted a new body and painted it the current shade of yellow. Upon return to the seller’s shop, he installed and aligned the doors. The window frames are bolted in – not welded – for ease of removal when taking the top off and electric windshield wipers with hidden washer nozzles have been added.

Along with tinted glass, premium exterior trim was installed along with a rubber bumper on the spare tire rack so that it does not dent the fender when swung out. Highlights include power-deployable running boards with LED illumination and an undercarriage that displays a tremendous level of precision and attention to detail during the build. There is no rust present as evidenced in the extensive photo gallery.

Satin grey, 5-lug 17” Vision Shift wheels with machined lips are wrapped in Firestone Destination A/T tires measuring 245/65 front and back. A matching spare is mounted on the rear carrier. Everything from the chrome to the headlights and paint finish appear to be in stunning condition on this restored 1970 Bronco.

    Interior
Full insulation with Dynamat sound deadener, temperature control with Vintage Air components and premium carpet and mats bring modern cabin comforts without sacrificing old-school looks. Bolstered gray bucket seats match the gray carpeting and rear bench seat. The 2-spoke black steering wheel fronts a color-keyed dash with an all-in-one gauge from Classic Instruments featuring LED illumination as well as original switchgear. The combo gauge features a central 140-mph speedometer surrounded by readouts for coolant temperature, battery voltage, a tachometer, oil pressure, fuel level and the odometer.

Highlighting the level of precision that went into this build are the shoulder harness reels that have been properly clocked (towards the interior), the steering wheel horn rim being aligned with the spokes and a glove box accessible fuse panel. Additional interior features include power windows, LED lighting and a black-finished roll bar. As detailed in the gallery, everything from the doorjambs to switchgear is in pristine condition.

    Mechanical
The original 302 CID V8 has been replaced with a 302 CID crate motor, BP3023CTC from BluePrint Engines. It is mated to the original 3-speed, column-shifted manual driving the rear wheels or all four via the floor-mounted transfer case. Both the transmission and transfer case were rebuilt with all new components including bearings, gears, yokes, synchros and gaskets. A neutral safety switch requires the clutch be depressed before the starting circuit can operate to prevent starting the vehicle in gear. The high capacity, triple-flow radiator is braced and runs cool per the owner.

This Bronco features power steering and power disc brakes at all four corners, Hellwig anti-sway bars and KYB gas shocks. Additional mechanical highlights include Currie axles, Trac-Lok differentials, a Woods driveshaft and Duffs 2 ½” exhaust. Copper/nickel brake and fuel lines, stainless steel brake line fittings and aircraft quality flexible lines were used in the build and are documented in the gallery. The 23-gallon fuel tank has overhead braces to prevent contact against the body and features dual inline filters. All receipts for this incredible build are included in the sale.

    Details
Located in Shreveport, Louisiana, this 1970 Ford Bronco was purchased by the owner two years ago on eBay. Since then, he has performed the top-to-bottom restoration shown in the gallery to an exacting level. Aside from the steering column, transmission and transmission cross member, transfer case, glove box door, rear axle U-bolt and title, every component is new. The additional modern amenities have been installed with a level of care and precision that makes the driving experience of this vintage Bronco more pleasurable without detracting from its original lineage.

This Bronco has been on the road for the past 5 months, during which 212 miles have been added. The truck is fully sorted with no known issues and is ready to impress its next owner.
